They usually begin to study the history of ancient Rus with the calling of the Varangians to the principality. A few words in the textbooks say about the foundation of Kiev by the legendary prince Kiy, his brothers and sister, about the death of Askold and Dir, about Oleg’s campaigns to Byzantium, Svyatoslav to the Khazars, about feuds for the throne. Attention is paid only to the period from the baptism of the Old Russian state, emphasizing it as the beginning of the heyday of the region. But, as recent studies confirm, before the arrival of the Scandinavians and enlighteners from Greece, the Slavs were a highly developed people. Not just idolaters who did not know letters, but a community with a unique spirit, established traditions, their own runic scripts and a special religion based on worship of the forces of nature.

Signs from the past

In everyday life, the Slavs used different signs, symbols, with the help of which they were protected from evil spirits, natural elements, renewed energy, nourished the mind and connected with Rod - not just a deity, but with all generations that existed before them and will exist after. The symbols of the ancestors of Ukrainians, Poles, Russians, Belarusians, Bulgarians and other fraternal peoples were very many. They can be conditionally divided into several groups:

  • Solar signs (solar) - a thunder sign, triskel, a cross, a kolokhizh. Kolovorot is a Slavic symbol, the most famous of this group.

  • Signs of the earth, nature, fertility - a sign of a sown and unseeded field, fern flower, world tree, forest.

  • Symbols of life-giving water (heavenly, rain) and sacred underground (river, spring) water.

  • Symbols of heavenly and earthly fire.

  • Signs of air and space.

  • Symbols of the union of two principles.

  • Signs of perfection, ideal - the golden mean, egg.

Most famous symbol

When talking about the sacred signs of the ancient Slavs, who did not know what Christianity is, the first thing that comes to mind is the sign Kolovrat, or Kolovorot, a Slavic symbol that looks like a cross with curved ends. It was much later that they began to associate it with fascism, because the swastika became their main emblem. But maybe that is why the German army was so strong, because the sign of the sun is the strongest amulet. And the first finds of this image were made forty thousand years ago. And then people believed that Kolovrat is a positive sign. But after the victory over Hitler, the whole world began to struggle with what reminds of it. And now from the memory of the people they are trying to erase the symbol of rotting. What is it - good or evil? Let's figure it out.

Appearance

The most ancient symbol represents the sun - the most important heavenly body, a source of heat and light, as well as its path through the horizon. Two more gods walked along the same road, occupying important places in the pantheon: Svarog and Khors. The Slavic Kolovrat looks like this: eight rays are placed in a circle (“count”), which converge at one point (center). The ends of the rays are bent exclusively in one direction, which means the continuous rotation of the heavenly wheel, its movement. Some researchers see the system of the universe in Kolovrat, because in the Universe everything moves in a circular orbit: both planets and atoms. And although science believes that the Slavs could not know about it at that time, still their knowledge was very extensive.

Visible Symbolism of the Rotation

Our ancestors carefully watched the movement of celestial bodies. The trajectories of the moon, stars and, of course, the sun, they studied thoroughly. They saw that if we arbitrarily combine the North Star, the places of the summer and winter solstices, the Big and Small Bucket (the constellations Ursa Major, large and small), then you can clearly see the Kolovrat. That is why the sacred sign played such a significant role in the life of the Slavs, like the sun itself.

The solar, that is, solar, symbol, which is the swastika, was often depicted on weapons, utensils, clothes, and even on the pagans where the idols stood. People endowed him with a strong protective effect, believed that he drove away dark forces, as if by divine fire, he burned spiritual and bodily diseases. The golden rot (Slavic symbol) was depicted on the scarlet banner of Prince Svyatoslav the Brave, who became famous for his fearlessness and numerous military victories. Yes, and after the baptism of Russia, the sign did not disappear, but embroidered with embroidered towels and shirts, walls of temples, and clay dishes.

Hidden symbolism

It is worth noting that the Kolovrat may be different. By one of its meanings, the sign protected the world of the living (Rule) from everything bad, reminded of the eternal. And on the other hand, he helped to communicate with the secret, hidden from the eyes of people other world. It all depended on which direction the rays rotate. According to the same principle, the amulet was divided into female and male. If the rays of the swastika went after the sun (salting), then it was worn by representatives of the stronger sex, the saloon decorated women.
