As mentioned earlier, the Kotovskoye reservoir is located near the city of Kotovsk, in the Tambov region. The width of the reservoir is about 3 km, the length is about 12.5 km. The average depth is approximately 4.5 m, and along the coast - about 2.5 m.

The reservoir can conditionally be divided into 2 parts:

  • The mirror of the reservoir (open part) has a total area of ​​about 22.5 km 2.
  • Forest flooded by a pond, its area is 9 km 2.

The reservoir is located at the coordinates: 52 ° 34'47 "N 41 ° 35'8" E.

Its construction lasted ten years and was completed in 1993. The creation of the reservoir was carried out for the needs of the Tambov Power Plant, which was planned for construction. However, the project was not implemented, and they decided to use the reservoir to improve the water supply of the settlements nearby.

Flora

Sugar-white sand lies on the beaches of the Kotovsky reservoir. The eastern shore of the reservoir has a steep structure. It is partly overgrown with mixed forest, which consists of aspen, birch, hazel, elm, linden and oak. There is a pine forest on the western shore, and its structure itself does not have such steepness. Willow, willow, alder and euonymus grow on the southern tip.

A dam was built on the Kotovsky reservoir, which blocks the water flows of the Lesnoy Tambov River. Its length is 3 km from west to east. Also, a non-navigable lock was built on the dam, which allows controlling the water level in the reservoir.

Fauna

A large number of birds nest near the reservoir and in the flooded forest, from waterfowl to day and night predators. Here are some of them:

  • gray duck;
  • mallard duck;
  • teal crackler and whistle;
  • mute swan;
  • gray heron;
  • moorhen;
  • river and gray tern;
  • lake cod;
  • white-tailed eagle;

The underwater world includes representatives such as:

The presence of such a variety of fish, as well as its sufficient quantity all year round, attracts fishing enthusiasts here.

In the summer, on the banks of the reservoir you can meet a large number of vacationers. One of the most popular holiday destinations is the beach "Titanic", where, in addition to beautiful sand and well-groomed territory, visitors are offered a wide range of entertainment services, there are also cafes and snack bars.

Some people prefer to relax on the "wild" beaches, of which there are quite a lot in these places. A large number of people come here for several days with tents and food supplies. Vacationers fry kebabs, fish and cook fish soup from it. A similar type of recreation is quite common in these places.
