The future Ukrainian politician was born on August 22, 1954 in the city of Voroshilovgrad, Voroshilovgrad region. In 1992, he graduated from the Kiev Institute of Political Science and Social Management, and received a master's degree there. Alexander graduated from the International Academy in Kiev in 1996, where he received a degree in economics. 18 years after receiving the last higher education, he became a doctor of economic sciences.

From 2006 to 2007, he was a People’s Deputy of Ukraine from the Party of Regions of the 5th convocation, he held the post of head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Provisions, ensuring the activities of the Verkhovna Rada and parliamentary activities. At the same time, after the election, he went on the party list of the PR, where he took 7th place. Initially, he was the head of the regulatory committee, and after Viktor Yanukovych came to power, he received the post of first deputy head of the leader of the "regionals" faction, later headed it and was responsible for the work of the 6th convocation coalition. People and other deputies openly called him a powerful person in the Luhansk region. At that time, his former associates and subordinates held high posts there.

In 2014, he participated in the adoption of a package of "dictatorial laws." The day after Viktor Yanukovych was stripped of power, Alexander Efremov’s views changed dramatically, and he announced the former President’s involvement in corruption and bloodshed.

A family

Larisa Alekseevna Efremova - the wife of Alexander Efremov - served as assistant to the head of the board of Ukrkommunbank. They have a son Igor, who is a fairly successful businessman. The family worked closely with each other for the common benefit, which is proved by unfairly won tenders and sale of equipment at inflated prices.

Alexander received the order of Yaroslav the Wise, before that Efremov was presented to the Order of Merit. Another politician received the badge of the State Standard and the Order of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir.

Allegations

In 2014, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine charged the politician Oleksandr Yefremov of abuse of power and coercion of officials in order to obtain material benefits. He was threatened with 3 to 6 years in prison. The case file indicated that Efremov pressured the employees of the Luganskugol enterprise and forced them to purchase equipment from firms controlled by his wife and son. Enterprises supplied goods several times higher than the standard cost.

As stated in the case file, only on this scam the family earned about 1 billion hryvnia. Also, the politician was suspected of involvement in organizing financing of the LPR armed forces. Efremov was detained in Kiev by the Security Service and the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. After 2 days, he was arrested for two months, a day later he was released on bail in the amount of 3.6 million hryvnias. 10 days later he was also charged with financing terrorism. Efremov increased the amount of the deposit. He also had his passport and other documents seized allowing him to leave Ukraine, and he was obliged not to leave the country.

Already on November 4, charges were dropped from Alexander Efremov and they gave permission to leave the country. He was again detained at the airport, where he was trying to fly to Vienna with his son, for trying to take over the Luganskugol enterprise. According to media reports, Alexander Tikhonov, a friend of Alexander, who was the head of the Lugansk Regional Council, participated in this act of capture. Politics was offered a deal to testify about Russia's participation in the armed conflict.

In many cases of Efremov, Rinat Akhmetov participated, who testified against the politician. Alexander had personal accounts with Akhmetov since 2003, when Efremov prevented the sale of a controlling stake in Donetsk companies and in no way made it possible to seize them. According to recent reports, his arrest was extended until June 12, 2017. There is currently no further information about the arrest.
