Mikhailovsky cemetery is a necropolis located in Yekaterinburg. Address of the Mikhailovsky cemetery: Yekaterinburg, st. Blucher, 4. It is considered one of the oldest in the city. A certain fame of this place is due to the fact that members of the Dyatlov group were buried here. Near the graves, two churches were built. Now they are no longer digging new graves.

What is Ekaterinburg?

This is a city in the middle of the Urals, the administrative center of the Sverdlovsk region. It is the center of the metallurgical industry. Climatic conditions are quite severe. Cold, long winters give way to warm summers. Therefore, boreal landscapes prevail in the structure of vegetation. Yekaterinburg is a rather old city, and therefore there are quite a lot of cemeteries, including ancient ones. Mikhailovsky is one of them.

History

Mikhailovsky cemetery was founded in 1865. A little later, in 1890, with the help of the merchant Fedor Mikhailov, the Church of All Saints was built near the graves. For this reason, the cemetery itself was also called Mikhailovsky. Before that, it was called New.

In the 50s and 80s of the 20th century, they wanted to liquidate the Mikhailovsky cemetery, and since 1960 it has been closed for burial.

At the moment, 18 thousand dead are resting in the cemetery, of which 7, 000 are unidentified. According to other sources, the funeral list of the Mikhailovsky cemetery in Yekaterinburg is much larger. In 1998, this place was assigned to the category of protected historical sites.

A memorial to Czechoslovak legionaries who died during the First World War was built at the cemetery. There is also a memorial to the victims of World War II. Here the soldiers who died in hospitals of the Sverdlovsk region were buried. 7 tourists from the Dyatlov group (1959) are buried at the same cemetery.

Mikhailovsky cemetery is located in the Kirovsky district of Yekaterinburg. The area is 17.6 hectares. All of it is divided into 22 sections.

The cemetery has a lot of greenery. Pines, birches and other tree species grow in abundance here. In fact, this is a real forest. Against the background of trees, the churches located nearby are very picturesque.

In total, two churches were built: the church in the name of All Saints and the church of St. Michael the Archangel. The first was laid in 1886, and opened in 1890. During the Second World War and in the 60s of the 20th century, it was closed. Only in 1990, the temple was reopened. Now there are services and memorial services. The church of St. Michael the Archangel is baptized.

How is they buried in a cemetery now?

Now the traditional method of burial by laying the coffin in the grave is not used here. Instead, an urn alley and an open columbarium are used. Near the urn with ashes is a black and white photograph of the deceased. Burial in this (economical) way is still available at Mikhailovsky Cemetery.
