The extraordinary and, of course, talented personality of the Serbian physicist is shrouded in many secrets, riddles and fiction, which are still inextricably linked with the name of Tesla. Researchers of his biography and historians of world science boldly argue that this man was far ahead of his time and, in fact, “invented” the 20th century. In other words, Nikola Tesla set the direction for the development of all global science and technology.
He was born in 1856 on the territory of modern Croatia, but most of his life he spent "overseas" in the United States. By the greatness of the mind and the size of its contribution to world science, it is often compared with Albert Einstein and Leonardo da Vinci. Legends about the personality of a Balkan scientist have gathered countless numbers. Rumor has it that Nikola Tesla had the gift of providence and could predict his fate and the fate of his friends. There is also a fantastic version that the scientist’s experiments provoked the fall of the Tunguska meteorite!
All of these interesting facts (both real and fictional) will be told to its visitors by the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade. Thousands of tourists from different parts of Serbia and other countries visit it annually.
The Nikola Tesla Museum, Belgrade: History and Value
By and large, this is the only place on Earth where you can get acquainted with the genuine things and documents of the great physicist. The Nikola Tesla Museum was established in December 1952 according to a decision of the government of the now defunct Republic of Yugoslavia.
The institution is located in an old two-story mansion in the center of Belgrade. A beautiful urban villa in the style of classicism was designed in 1927 by the Serbian architect Dražić Brasovan. In 1949, all personal belongings and documents of the scientist were transferred to Belgrade from across the ocean (such was the will of Tesla himself). It was they who became the basis of the future museum.
The director of the institution is Vladimir Yelenkovich. It is worth noting that the modern Nikola Tesla Museum not only acquaints visitors with the life and work of the scientist. The organization also actively popularizes science and supports all kinds of research in the field of studying its history.
Museum of Nikola Tesla: photos and description
160 thousand original documents, about 5 thousand books, magazines, drawings and diagrams, as well as over 1200 inventions. All this is carefully kept in their collections by the Belgrade Museum of Nikola Tesla. Attraction address: 51 Krunska street. The doors of the museum are open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 18:00 (on weekends - until 15:00).
Museum expositions are located on two floors of the mansion. At the first, the visitor gets acquainted with the instruments and devices invented by the scientist, and at the second you can study documents, books and personal letters of an outstanding physicist. The second floor will be more interesting for those tourists who wish to better discover the identity of Tesla.
Of course, you can just wander around the museum, studying its exhibits. But it’s best to join an excursion that runs here every hour. The museum also has English-speaking guides. How does a standard tour go? At the very beginning, visitors are shown a short video about the life and work of a physicist. Then the guide guides guests through the halls of the museum. Moreover, this walk is combined with some scientific and technical experiments. So, in the Nikola Tesla Museum, you can literally catch a lightning bolt or hold a real “Jedi sword” in your hands.
