Tolstoy Museum on Prechistenka

The main literary exposition dedicated to L. Tolstoy is located in the center of Moscow, in a building constructed back in 1817 and owned by the Lopukhin-Stanitsky. This is not only a museum, but also a monument of architecture of the XIX century, an example of a unique building, miraculously preserved after a fire in the capital, which is of historical value.

The building is a noble estate. It is built of wood, decorated with white columns and bas-reliefs on the facade.

The Tolstoy Museum is located on Prechistenka 11/8. This is one of the main and unique buildings on this street. It contains a collection of the great writer. The opening took place on December 28, 1911, a year after the death of Lev Nikolaevich. During the revolutionary movements, the fate of the museum remained in doubt. But in 1918, letters of protection were issued to him. In 1920, V. Lenin signed a decree stating that the house was vested with the right to exist as a museum.

Collections

The Tolstoy Museum on Prechistenka has existed for more than 100 years. During this time, permanent exhibitions changed several times. For example, there was such an exhibition as "Leo Tolstoy - this is the whole world."

Today, anyone can see here an exhibition entitled "Pay tribute to the great", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the museum. It was opened in 2011 and is presented in nine rooms.

One of the collections includes pictorial portraits that were painted by various famous artists. Some of them knew Tolstoy personally, for example, I. Repin. He wrote not only Lev Nikolayevich himself, but also his relatives. Leonid Pasternak also closely interacted with the Tolstoy family, was included in their house and often embodied what he saw there on his canvases. Among his works is the famous canvas "L. N. Tolstoy reading at the lamp" in 1909.

In addition to paintings, in the Museum on Prechistenka Street you can see the writer's personal belongings and family heirlooms. For example, military awards and wedding accessories.

Interesting exhibits are also illustrations to the works of L. Tolstoy, which were created by his artist friends. As well as a collection consisting of a huge number of photographs, preserved to this day. On them you can see not only the writer himself, but also members of his family.

Today the Tolstoy Museum on Prechistenka welcomes everyone, starting with primary school students and ending with adults. In addition to the permanent exhibition, you can see themed mini-shows here. They introduce the writer's work in an unusual and interesting way.

You can find out what events are planned in the near future both by phone and on the official website of the complex. For example, the museum offers a series of evenings dedicated to the Russian romance, where the topic of what role this piece of music played in the life of the writer will be touched. As well as a temporary exposition telling about the revolutionary events that were studied by L. Tolstoy. At the end of November 2017, an exhibition based on the work "Anna Karenina" will be held here, where visitors will have the opportunity to see illustrations by Russian artists.

Before you get to the Tolstoy Museum in Moscow, you should purchase a ticket at the box office. The cost of visiting the exposition for adults is 250 rubles. Pupils, students and retirees, upon presentation of the relevant document, receive a discount. For them, the ticket price will be 150 rubles. For preferential categories of citizens admission is free.
