Who popularized the phrase?
The expression "for rep" began to be used not so long ago. For the first time, it began to appear in the lyrics of Russian rap artists. In American street culture, the term repeat has long been known, but Russian musicians, having borrowed the word, did not translate it into Russian and left phonetically the same as it was. This expression is used by both "yard" performers and high-class rappers, for example, Oxxymiron, LSP and others.
What does the word "on repet" mean?
"On repeat" means "on repeat." That is, when they say that something "stands on a repeat, " it is understood that some thing is repeated.
Often you can hear an expression like "song on repeat". The fact is that in many music players there is a Repeat button, when clicked, the player will spin the same song of your choice. “On a repeat in my head” means that a person liked a song so much that it spins in his head non-stop - a familiar situation, isn't it?
The expression "for rep" applies not only to songs. Sometimes it refers to some events or life situations that made a lasting impression on a person. Unforgettable events that do not leave a person for a long time and scroll through his head. If they are negative, then they "bite" a person, do not let him go, and if they are positive, they give life energy and charge them with positive.
In rap compositions on the theme of unhappy love, this expression can be interpreted as unquenched feelings for the object of love, which “scroll” in the soul again and again.
The expression "on repeat" can be applied to all kinds of creative events (most often these are hip-hop concerts). The exclamation of repit is equated to the famous encore. This phrase is used at concerts of alternative artists and pop singers; at rock concerts, such an exclamation is unacceptable.
