On the basis of the legendary Makarov pistol, known to many as the PM, the Makarov signal pistol MP-371 was created. Unlike its military predecessor, which appeared in 1949, Makarov MP-371 is a skillfully made ordinary dummy, the muzzle section of which can optionally be equipped with an imitation sleeve, and the dummy handle can be replaced with an authentic one taken from a combat sample.
Where is the gun made?
Signal Makarov MP-371 is an ideal copy of military weapons. It is produced at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant. In almost everything, the model is an analogue of the combat PM - their parts are identical, the pistols are disassembled and assembled the same way, but differ in their purpose. Makarov pistol MR-371 is not intended for live shooting, but to create a noise effect. IzhMekh produces special ammunition for it - metal and disposable plastic cartridges, which only look very similar to live ammunition, but are actually noise. Weapons steel is used for the production of signal pistol cases, which makes it possible and safe to further alter them for firing live ammunition.

How is the MP-371 different from the combat?
The Makarov MR-371 signal pistol differs from its combat counterpart by the absence of a “beard” on the shutter. In its place there is a small cut, which is intended to prevent the installation of criminal home-made products on the shutter. Self-retrofitting the bolt will entail its destruction at the time of the shot with an injury to the shooter.
Differences also affected pistol trunks. In the signal version, it is absent - instead of the barrel, an ingot with a longitudinal milling groove is mounted in the MP-371. The presence of a blind pin hole in it significantly weakens the barrel fasteners, which complicates the process of remaking the signal version of a weapon under combat. In the barrel mount is located inside the chrome-plated chamber, into which the cartridge is installed. For the exit of powder gases in the front of the chamber there is a small hole with a diameter of 0.2 cm.
Alarm pistol Makarov MR-371 is equipped with a limiter that prevents the loading of the magazine with live ammunition.
How does a weapon work?
Signal Makarov MR-371, despite the external similarity with the classic combat PM, as well as the similarity of the mechanisms, has several differences from the military counterpart.
The firing of a signal pistol is carried out thanks to self-cocking - after each shot, it is necessary to cock the trigger, and remove the fired simulator using the shutter from the chamber. Only after the platoon is used and the used simulator is thrown out of the pistol mechanism does the new simulator send into the chamber from the magazine located in the handle. Thus, for each shot it is necessary to pull the trigger.
During the firing in the MP-371, you can notice the movement of the shutter, which makes it very similar to a combat PM. Shooting is carried out using simulating cartridges and the flammable capsules contained in them, designed to create an imitation of a shot.
MP-371: tuning
Makarov pistol can be redone. It is enough to remove the handle from plastic and replace it with a similar one from bakelite used in combat PM and in IZH-79. After working with the handle, the screw from this PM can be installed on the MP-371. You can also grind the screw yourself.
After replacing the handle and screw on the signal MP-371, you can also remake the barrel tube simulating the barrel, the muzzle of which is painted red.
It is enough to erase the paint with acetone. Removing the paint at the front end of the tube will give the muzzle cut a serious look; the signal gun will not differ from a combat or traumatic sample. The muzzle section can be completely changed - redone for a section from a combat PM. To do this, you need to mount the PM bushing into the standard one. The main thing is that the length of the installed sleeve does not exceed 1.5 cm.
Cartridges
For Makarov’s signal pistols, the MR-371 provides special imitating cartridges that look very similar to real combat ones. The signal cartridges inside contain a container in which flammable capsules are installed. Ignitors of the Zhevelo-N and KV-21 brands are considered common.
For the production of signal cartridges use brass and plastic. Depending on the purpose of the fired shots, the owners of the weapon select the appropriate cartridges. For the sound signal, plastic cartridges are used, and for multiple shooting - from brass. You can use them at temperatures from –10 to +50 degrees.
