Robout Gilliman is the Primarch of the Legion of Ultramarines from the Warhammer 40000 universe. He became famous for his decisive actions to save the Imperium, especially after the Heresy of Horus. His story began on the planet Macrage, where he ended up as a child. Thanks to his activities, the planet entered the era of prosperity, but first things first.

Primarchs

When the Emperor realized that he could not unite humanity alone, he created 20 Primarchs. Their mission is to lead the Space Marine legions and strengthen the Imperium. Primarchs were created from the genetic material of the Emperor himself. They differed from ordinary people with a sharp mind, leadership qualities and military prowess. However, fate was not favorable to the sons of the Emperor, the forces of Chaos stole the capsules with the Primarchs, after which they were lost in space.

Future leaders of the Space Marine were waiting for burdens and hardships. They hardened some, while others, on the contrary, broke under the weight of the trials. Roboute Gilliman was one of those who make difficulties only stronger.

Childhood

Planet Macrage had a sufficient level of technological development to carry out interstellar flights and trade with other worlds. Therefore, a capsule with a child falling from the sky did not surprise them at all. The kid was assigned to one of the consuls who ruled the planet, which adopted him. The ruler was called Conor Gilliman, his fateful decision changed the future not only of MacRage, but of the whole Imperium.

Gilliman Robaut grew and developed at superhuman speed. At 10, he could boast of exceptional knowledge in many scientific disciplines. The young Primarch possessed the talent of manager and commander. He chose the path of a warrior, becoming the head of the expeditionary forces of MacRage.

Betrayal

The Illyrium sector is the habitat of the bloodthirsty savages who ravaged the civilized inhabitants of Macrage. Many military campaigns were undertaken on these harsh lands, but all of them were unsuccessful. However, Robout Gilliman managed to defeat the savages, robbed them of some territories and forever discouraged the fight. But, returning to his hometown, the Primarch discovered in it only chaos and destruction.

Consul Gallan, the second ruler of MacRage, was not pleased with the actions of Conor Gilliman, the adoptive father of Robout. Conor strengthened the position of ordinary people who were in slavery before his arrival. Naturally, the nobility was annoyed by his innovations and rebelled under the leadership of the consul Gallan. Gilliman Robout quickly put things in order in the city, but his adoptive father died of his wounds. The conspirators were brutally executed, and the Primarch became the sole ruler of MacRage.

Meeting with the Emperor

Under the direction of Robout, the planet literally blossomed. He handed out the wealth of the wealthy to simple hard workers and completely reorganized the management system, replacing the rotten nobility with worthy people. MacRage’s military industry also experienced an unprecedented rise, the planet acquired a trained and well-equipped army.

While Robout Gilliman fought in the Illyrium sector, the Emperor advanced through the galaxy, freeing the planets inhabited by people, and uniting them into a powerful empire. Once he came to the planet Espandor, where he heard about the son of a consul from a neighboring system, who has incredible power and talent as a commander. He immediately realized that he had found one of the lost Primarchs, and went to MacRage. However, due to the subspace vortex, the Emperor arrived on the planet only in the fifth year of Robout's reign. Thanks to the efforts of the new consul, the planet flourished. The emperor saw great potential in Robout Gilliman and appointed him commander of the Ultramarine Legion.

Crusade

Under the command of Robout, the Legion of the Ultramarines reached unprecedented heights. Many worlds were liberated by the forces of Space Marines Gilliman. Unlike other legions, they remained on the liberated planets until they built a strong defense line on them. The new members of the Imperium were protected from both external and internal enemies. Robout Gilliman established not only the military industry, but also peaceful life. He left advisers designed to pull the technological development of the backward planets to high imperial standards.

The quick integration of new worlds has provided a reliable rear for the Ultramarines. They never had problems with supplies and new recruits. Robout Gilliman expanded the borders of the Imperium and strengthened it from the inside. Unfortunately, further events destroyed what Primarchs and space marines created with such difficulty.

Horus Heresy

Horus is the Emperor’s most devoted and talented Primarch. He was appointed leader of the Imperial forces, but did not live up to his confidence. Horus chose to serve Chaos, as did some Legions who remained faithful to the heretic. Desiring to remove the Ultramarines from the confrontation, the rebel sent them to the Hult system, where the Word Bearers were waiting for them. There they were supposed to fight with the orcs of Gaslakh, but the Word Bearers had already gone over to the side of Horus and were preparing a “warm welcome” for the Ultramarines.

As a result, a bloody battle ensued, which claimed the lives of many glorious space marines. The battle went on both in space and on the planet, until the complete destruction of the minions of Chaos. The legion of Robout Gilliman suffered huge losses and went to Terra to support the Emperor. Horus knew that he could not resist the combined forces of those who remained faithful to the Emperor. He decided to end the battle before the arrival of Robout and his Ultramarines. This rash act cost him his life, the heretic fell at the hands of the Emperor.

Reorganization of the Imperium

After the betrayal of Horus, it became clear that it was necessary to limit the power concentrated in the hands of one person. The emperor was barely alive after the battle with the rebels, the Imperium was seriously weakened. At this critical moment, it was decided to divide the legions into orders of up to a thousand people. This reduced the risk of rebellion and would suppress riot with minimal loss. Not everyone liked this idea, but in the end even the most ardent conservatives were able to accept it.

At this time, Robout Gilliman created the Codex Astartes - a document regulating the life of orders. It contains the wisdom of many generations of space marines. Codex pages contain concentrated wisdom gained by veterans in terrifying battles with the enemy. They provide instructions on how to recruit recruits, organize troop supplies, and even provide effective siege schemes for enemy planets.

After the reorganization, Robout Gilliman took part in many wars, one of which took place against the Alpha Legion. The Ultramarines won the battle, and their leader killed Alpharius himself in a duel. However, this did not temper the ardor of the Chaosites, so the Ultramarines had to expose their planet to the procedure of Exterminatus. Subsequently, the glorious Primarch held many battles, in one of which he was mortally wounded from Fulgrim, the serpentine Prince of demons. Apothecaries managed to imprison Robout in a stasis field and took him to his home planet.
