Mysteries of nature

In the north of Siberia, between Chukotka and Magadan, the Khabarovsk Territory, the Amur Region and the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the East Siberian Sea and the Laptev Sea, Yakutia (Republic of Sakha) is located.

The mysteries of the nature of Yakutia are that it flourishes in the permafrost zone. Most of the territory is mountains, plateaus and lowlands. Between the mountains and hills flow the greatest rivers in the world. Rafting along these rivers in the conditions of unsurpassed beauty of the northern nature of the Republic, you get the most unusual sensations in life, because the climate in these places is nothing short of extreme, the coldest of all places where people live.

Air temperature ranges from more than 35 degrees in the summer to minus 70 degrees in the winter. Here is the cold pole of our hemisphere of the planet, where the temperature is -71 degrees. Such harsh living conditions have no analogues in the world. It is worth seeing with your own eyes, because the nature of Yakutia is definitely one of the most unusual on the planet.

Many residents of our vast country know no more about this subject of the Russian Federation than foreigners know about Russia: the lifeless snowy desert through which bears roam. All this is incredibly far and extremely cold, as in the tale of the Snow Queen. And indeed it is.

Various animals live in the area, especially a lot of deer. The climate features attract tourists here to look at the "pole of cold" and plunge into the "permafrost". The nature of Yakutia, the photo of which can be seen below, causes travelers an irresistible desire to visit these places more than once.

A bit of history

Lovers of ancient history who want to see with their own eyes the places in which the mammoths lived must definitely visit Yakutia. The ice of the permafrost preserved unique parts of ancient animals. In the forties of the last century, scientists discovered a huge burial of mammoth bones, unusual in size and preservation. And in the 70s of the last century, scientists collected more than seven thousand of their bones in that cemetery of extinct animals.

Limestone pillars on the Lena River

Huge pillars, similar to the Stone Forest, can be observed on the Lena River in the Hangalassky ulus. Between Pokrovsky and Yakutsk cliffs made of limestone rise. Mysterious stone towers more than 160 meters high rise along the river, lining for more than 75 kilometers, like the ancient gigantic guards. The pillars were opened long ago, in the 17th century, but it was very difficult to get to these places. Only in the sixties of the twentieth century the first tourist routes laid to the Lena pillars. Now there is a national park. In addition to poles, an ancient man’s site was opened in the park, 3 million years ago who lived in these parts and adorned the banks of local rivers with rock paintings.

Yakutskoye Loch Ness monster in Lake Labynkyr

In the east of the territory there is another natural wonder - Lake Labynkyr. A mysterious animal lives in its waters. The lake freezes very slowly, contrary to all scientific evidence. Fans of everything mysterious need to see this phenomenon with their own eyes.
