In the very early spring, as soon as the snow begins to melt, at the edges of the grouse begin to show activity. Of course, on white snow, the males of this bird stand out as a bright spot - with bright mirror plumage and red eyebrows. The females are not so beautiful, but much wiser and more inventive than the males.

Grouse female what is called?

Children can answer this question intricately: black grouse, black grouse. You can, of course, call her simply - a female black grouse. What is the name of this chicken-like bird? It’s correct to call it a teter. In ancient times, it was called the whitefish, owing to the outward resemblance to the pockmarked chicken. The hunters and hunters call her hooves.

In general, it is easiest to call it simply a teter. So we will write further in the article.

Grouse-grouse: forest handsome

This is a special bird. He is remarkable and luxurious, dressed in a chic feather coat.

It can be easily recognized by its dark black plumage with a mirror shine. There may be a green or purple overflow on the bird’s neck. The abdomen is brown. The tips of the tail feathers are gracefully curved. There are white feather inserts on the wings, red eyebrows above the eyes.

Grouse-grouse is a real decoration of the woods, but it is a real hunt. The meat of this bird is appreciated, but not the beautiful appearance. Every year, hunters destroy entire swarms of these creatures. Experienced hunters, at least, do not touch the grouse, realizing that they may have a nest with chicks. Poachers do not think about defenseless brood of a chicken, only the fact of capture is important to them.

Appearance

And what does a female black grouse look like? Unlike males, they are not so remarkable. Teterka is similar to an ordinary chicken, only it is much larger.

Her color is brown or beige, in the plumage black and light longitudinal stripes of feathers are clearly visible. It is as if striped, motley.

Also, the aunt can be confused with a female capercaillie. They are similar in size and plumage. Teterka has white “mirrors” on its wings, its tail feather is also white.

Chicks, both females and males, are identical in appearance. They are bright, colorful. In their plumage there are brown, black, red, white and brown feathers.

The female black grouse can more professionally hide from hunters due to its nondescript plumage. It is practically invisible in the dense grass, where it will certainly escape, escaping death.

Grouse Weddings

With the onset of early spring grouse begin to fill in songs - to lure and lure females to create a family. The black grouse chickens and snorts for several minutes, then it calms down for a short time and begins to sing again.

The female black grouse coddles, teasing the suitors and inciting more and more excitement in them. It is the grouse that chooses her grouse.

The males are chicken and waiting for the grouse to separate them, each making their own choice. Females are not in a hurry to run to the suitors, they are pulling time to the last. During this time, the most persistent, and therefore the most powerful representatives of the bird flock are determined.

When the choice is made, the black grouse are divided into pairs and disperse in their territories. They are together for a while before the little girl lays eggs. At this time, the male also visits other aunts who were left without a pair. The female black grouse has nothing against such trips, because these are polygamous birds.

When the eggs lie in the nest, the black grouse leaves this territory. The males again huddle in one pack until the next season.

Teterka hatches the clutch alone, protecting future chicks from the encroachment of predators and other lovers to feast on bird eggs.

Hatching and hatching eggs

As already mentioned, males do not take part in the further fate of their offspring. The female black grouse itself arranges the nest, trying to erect it in the dense grass, thickets of nettles or junipers.

Usually, a grouse lays 6-8 eggs, which are taken care of for a month. After 25-30 days, the chicks hatch, but they are not like ordinary chicks. Within a few hours, they exit the nest and everywhere follow their mother.

During the first ten days of the life of the chicks, the female black grouse does not take their eyes off them. At this time, she herself is at greatest risk.

The chicks do not know how to fly yet; they themselves cannot feel the danger and defend themselves. And danger lies in wait at every step. Not only hunters, but also wild animals threaten them.

If a mother-aunt felt danger, she immediately emits a loud cry, similar to cackling and the roar of a wounded individual at the same time. Chicks know what this means: urgently run up, hide in the grass and sit quietly!

The female grouse herself pretends to be wounded and takes the dangerous representative of the outside world away from her children.

Once again, when you hunt black grouse and see a wounded little one, think about it, maybe it just takes you away from its nest. Do not touch this bird, because without it the chicks can die.

Grouse and grouse live inseparably, even when the chicks begin to fly. Ten days later they start jumping, archiving, and after a month they completely stand on the wing.

The female black grouse takes her children to get acquainted with the whole flock only closer to wintering.
