Among all the feathered singers, there is one of the most vociferous. His trills resonantly stand out from all the others. Guess who we are talking about? That's right about the nightingale. Most people associate these birds with the best of the best, with skillful feathered singers. And partly they are right. Indeed, the nightingale is a relatively songbird. Why is it relative? Let's find out!

How to recognize him?

All his feathers are painted with a uniform brown color, which brightens on the abdomen, turning into pure white. Huge little black eyes give it a special charm. The nightingale is a bird of prey and migratory: it feeds exclusively on insects, and leaves its native expanses for the winter, flying away to warm countries.

When do they come to us?

In the spring they return. This happens when all the bushes and trees begin to turn green. It happens like this. The nightingale flies to its nesting places only at night, with the males flying first, and the females following them. Birds look for their former homes and settle in them again. If it was not possible to find the nest, then the nightingale parents begin to twist it in a new way. Suitable places are on the ground among dense shrubs. Building materials are grass, dry leaves, animal hair and plant fibers. When the "house" is built, the females begin to hatch eggs, and the males do their favorite thing - they sing.

Lovely singing

The nightingale bird (photo No. 2) is so vociferous that it performs its trills all day and night, without ceasing! His nightly “concerts” deserve special praise. Sometimes people specially arrange evening walks in squares, parks and even through the forest to enjoy the singing of this beautiful bird. And the photo of the nightingale issuing its trills is another proof of this. No doubt the singing of these birds is just fine, but there are some exceptions.

Is he a singer?

Not all males are as beautiful singers as they seem. Without exaggeration, among them there are true masters of vocal work, but such nuggets are, unfortunately, rare. Basically, these are pretty weak performers. The fact is that the nightingale is not a songbird, i.e. is not musical, as they say, from God. In other words, vocal mastery is not an innate property of males. Young nightingales acquire it only if their fathers or other relatives can teach them this business.

Nightingale offspring

Nightingale is a family bird. The male is sometimes distracted from his concerts and helps the “bride” to incubate eggs. Usually, four to six chicks are born in the same nest. They come out naked and blind. Father helps mother feed the children, managing to sing her wonderful trills! At the end of June, young chicks leave the "parental home", and adult males stop giving their "concerts". Parents continue to take care of their descendants until they learn how to fly perfectly. All the rest of the summer, nightingales are secretive and quiet birds, and there can be no talk of any singing. These birds leave us in August or September, flying away for the winter to Tropical Africa.
