This building was built according to the project of architects Yu.A. Kolesnikova and N.I. Demchinsky. The main hall has the design of a standard project called the “centipede”, however it differs slightly from this type by the pitch of the columns and their number (the distance in the row between the columns is 6.5 m, 26 columns are arranged in 2 rows).

The columns of the hall are decorated with Baikal pink marble, the track walls with white ceramic tiles decorated with metal inserts (M. A. Shmakov, A. A. Leontyeva), and the floors are lined with gray granite.

The theme of bas-reliefs is space exploration.

The Kaluzhskaya metro station does not have its own ground lobby. You can get into the city only through underground passages overlooking ul. Obruchev, Trade Union, Bakery and Scientific Driveways, on the Starokaluzhskoye highway and on the square of Academician Keldysh.

From the history

From 1950 to 1961, another station was called Kaluzhskaya (Koltsevaya metro line). Now it is known to Muscovites as “Oktyabrskaya”.

In 1964-1974, the Kaluzhskaya metro station was terrestrial, being the last on the Kaluga radius. Its location at that time was the territory of the PM-5 depot Kaluzhskaya. There were no decorations here at that time.

The station got its name in connection with Kaluga Highway passing near, which is a continuation of Profsoyuznaya Street. The square with the same name is located at a great distance from the metro.
