To visit Moscow and not visit the Tretyakov Gallery is simply blasphemy. She, of course, is one of the main symbols not only of the capital, but of the whole of Russia. The exhibits on display in the exhibition halls are real masterpieces and the property of our state. The magnificent paintings that are stored in this museum are known in all corners of the world. Therefore, in almost every of the excursion routes in the capital, organized for tourists from various cities of Russia and other countries, the main place is occupied by the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
A bit of history
The main museum building is located in Lavrushinsky Lane Zamoskvorechye. In 1851, this house was acquired by the Tretyakov family. The head of this prosperous merchant family, Pavel Mikhailovich Tretyakov, later founded the famous Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Initially, the exhibition included only a few paintings purchased at the expense of the merchant himself - a passionate lover of painting. He was especially fond of Perov’s canvases and ordered one painting after another for his house. Later, when the collection acquired a solid size, the merchant decided to give his “wealth” to his native city. Such is the story of the creation of this unique museum, which incorporated ingenious samples of the work of Russian artists 19-20, and now 21 centuries.
Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val
In Soviet times, the museum, like all other cultural objects of the capital, came under the auspices of the country's Ministry of Culture. With the accumulation of a large number of exhibits, the Tretyakov House, despite its impressive size, could not fully accommodate all the paintings, and several new premises had to be attached to it. In addition, the Ministry of Culture decided to divide the entire exhibition into two parts: pre-Soviet and Soviet. Moreover, they decided to place the latter in a new building, the construction of which began back in the 60s of the 20th century. However, like any Soviet construction site, it took a protracted character and was completed after about 20 years, in the mid-80s. So the Tretyakov Gallery was created on Krymsky Val.
Museum building features and location map
The gallery's full address is: Park Kultury metro station or Oktyabrskaya metro station, Krymsky Val, 10. In order not to get lost and quickly find the museum, it is best to use underground transport, but you can also get here by trolley (number 10). A long building stretches along the embankment towards the Kremlin. This white two-story pavilion is a typical example of Soviet architecture and looks like a regular rectangle with panoramic windows. The authors of the project are Yu. N. Sheverdyaev and N. P. Sukoyan. According to the author’s idea, the building, located on the embankment of the Moskva River, was to be a continuation of the Central Park of Recreation and Culture named after A.M. Gorky towards the Moscow Kremlin. As a result of this, its height should not have exceeded a certain height (8 meters) so as not to obstruct historical buildings. Therefore, architects and designers came to a mutual decision - to build a two-story building. It also conceived a through colonnade, which was supposed to pass along the entire perimeter of the lower floor.
The museum was criticized more than once in view of the fact that there is nothing remarkable in its interior and exterior. However, if you look at it from the other side, the spacious halls of the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val (more than 12 thousand square meters) are simply ideal for organizing exhibitions and other large-scale events, for example, presentations, etc. In addition, there are several long enfilades that give great exhibition opportunities.
Exposition
For some time after the opening of the pavilion, the Tretyakov Gallery Museum in Lavrushinsky Lane, that is, the old Tretyakov House, was closed for restoration. Repair lasted as long as 10 years, and during this time the main collection of the gallery moved to a new pavilion on Krymsky Val. Here in different halls were exhibited the works of both the great painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as the best examples of works by artists of the Soviet period. In a word, for 10 years it was here that the famous museum was located - the city’s city.
Museum today
The Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val is a concentration of works of art from the 20-21 centuries. Here are paintings by avant-garde artists (K. S. Malevich, M. Z. Chagall, V. V. Kandinsky, P. N. Filonov, Popova and others); masters of socialist realism, as well as underground followers, etc. The total number of exhibits consisting of sculptures, graphics and paintings is about 150, 000. From time to time, you can see a demonstration of works by young and still unknown artists. The organizer is also the Tretyakov Gallery (Krymsky Val). These exhibitions help to identify new talents. The most interesting exhibitions
Over the past few years, the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery have witnessed such exhibits as “In the Circle of Malevich” or “P. Sulazh. Black Light ”, video sculptures from Germany or a collection of paintings by Victor Popkov (1932-1974) and Karl Bryulov. By the way, initially it was planned to host the State Art Gallery of the USSR. However, the building nevertheless came under the use of the Tretyakov Gallery, and a permanent exhibition “20th Century Art” opened in it. In addition, from the beginning of the 21st century, a children's creative workshop for gifted children began to operate in it.

The Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val receives visitors all days of the week, except Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. without a break, however, the ticket office is open until 18.30. As for the cost of the admission ticket, its price (depending on the age of the visitor) varies from 100 to 400 rubles. Children under 7 years old have free admission to the museum.
