Volume increase

This is now "Cosmos" talks about a particular industry. But few people know what kind of transformation he underwent. In the distant 30s of the last century, a pavilion was developed, which should be decorated with a decorative tower. For many, mechanization seemed inconvenient from the practical side, because it could not accommodate in the right amount all the tractors and combines represented by the agricultural sector.

In the mid-50s, the exposition was supplemented several times by samples of the automotive and aviation industries. All of them were conveniently located on the allotted territory of VDNH. The Pavilion “Cosmos” was replaced by “Engineering”, which included various types of equipment, machinery, machine tools, automatic lines. Over the decades, expositions have grown so much that there isn’t enough space for the whole place.

Necessary changes

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution required long-awaited changes. Space exploration has become an excellent example of the achievements of the Soviet state. VDNH (the Pavilion “Cosmos” in the first place) contained models of artificial satellites, showing the rich history of the development of rocket and space technology, as well as other interesting things. Such, for example, was the astronaut’s life support system, a wide range of technical equipment used in flight. The original layout of the spaceport, built in front of the pavilion, already at the entrance enthralled visitors.

Despite state difficulties

In two separate, but connected buildings housed a rich exhibition of VDNH. Pavilion “Cosmos” subsequently separated from “Mechanical Engineering”, having received serial number 32, by which it is widely known now. It is also divided into independent buildings “Cosmonautics” and “Aviation”, which gives visitors an even greater opportunity to view the unique monuments of astronautics that have survived to this day. Expositions are constantly filled with new unique materials.

With the beginning of perestroika times, “Cosmos” was practically not in demand. The exhibition center looked more like shopping malls where people tried to earn a living. The country was swallowed by the market and trade. Of course, excursions were popular, but with the plight of most fellow citizens, education issues faded into the background.

Nevertheless, great happiness lies in preserving the object to our times. In 2014, the return of the historical name - VDNH. The Pavilion “Cosmos” (as its integral part) was recognized as an object of cultural heritage.
