The construction of a memorial made of marble or granite is a wonderful way to pay tribute to a person, to perpetuate his memory. But how to make the monument useful? You must admit that a stone stele is very beautiful, but it has no practical meaning. People came up with a truly unique and symbolic way to perpetuate someone or mark an event - to plant trees in a certain form. Such plantings become a living legacy that grows and grows stronger from year to year. Here are green monuments from around the world.

Studebaker (main photo)

In 1926, Studebaker Corporation built the first indoor test facility for an American automobile company. The car manufacturer, founded in 1852, spent more than a million dollars on this test site, which included a five-kilometer track with various sections: hills for lifting, skidding areas, winding curves and bumpy roads.

In 1938, the company planted 8, 259 seedlings on an area of about 185 square meters. The trees were planted in the form of letters, which together made up the word Studebaker.

Initially, the letters were beautifully ordered, they were easy to read from the air, which was achieved by Studebaker. The sign was planted for aircraft flying over it and could be seen by passengers. It was a kind of publicity stunt.

Pines grew over the years, letters became more voluminous. Studebaker, by contrast, began to fade. After many years of financial troubles, the company closed its last remaining manufacturing facility in 1966. Studebaker sold the land on which the trees grew. The new owner, Bendix Corporation, donated part of the property to create the county park. Parts of the test sites were later acquired by Bosch and Navistar.
