After a loud statement by Sean Paul Lockhart, Cobra Video Studios filed a lawsuit against him and his business partners in San Diego. The company accused Brenton of violating trademark rights and not fulfilling the contract.
The plaintiffs estimated the damage at one million dollars, and also demanded to ban the use of the pseudonym Brent Corrigan in the gay porn industry, as they considered this stage name to be a Cobra Video trademark.
In January 2007, the parties managed to come to a preliminary peace agreement, which was to be sent to Kochis (owner and founder of Cobra Video Studios) in writing on January 25. The final hearing was scheduled for February 21.
However, the event did not happen because Kochis was brutally killed (28 stab wounds) in his own house, which was subsequently burned to hide evidence.
The crime was charged with two people - Harlow Cuadre and Joseph Manuel Kerekes. They were representatives of a competing porn industry company.
