In 1990, the Austrian company Glock GmbH created a self-loading pistol Glock 20, focused on the use of US intelligence. The specified model has become a modernized version of the base 17th modification. Design changes affected a number of units redesigned to use the powerful Auto 10 mm ammunition. In addition, it is possible to operate a charge of a similar type with a lower initial bullet speed, developed after a series of experiments that were conducted by FBI specialists for several years.
Glock 20: specifications

Features
The 10 mm Auto cartridge has a high slaughter rate, ahead of the nine-millimeter 9x19 parabellum, which was used in previous versions of the Glocks. A similar feature served as the basis for reducing the capacity of the store, and the weapon itself became wider and longer. However, the interchangeability of parts for Glock 20 and 17 was 50 percent. In addition to the caliber, the new model differs from the basic version with a reinforced locking unit. This was done by adding a second transverse axis, which was later introduced into the nine-millimeter counterpart.
Glock GmbH was one of the first companies to deliver self-loading pistols for 10 mm ammunition on a serial flow. To speed up the process, manufacturers even temporarily suspended the release of the version under the Colt cartridge (45 mm), which entered the market a bit later under serial number 21.
Modifications
The weapon in question is available in several variations:
- Glock 20 - basic modification.
- 20C. This model differs from the above analogue in that it is equipped with an internal compensator tossing the barrel. This element is made in the form of several holes in the upper compartment of the barrel. The indicated slots correspond to cutouts in the bolt shield next to the front sight.
- Variant 20SF - differs from the 20th progenitor by a narrower handle, which has a forward rearward part. This feature allows users with a small volume of the hand to hold their weapons reliably.
Automation and USM
The automation of the Glock 20 pistol works identically to past modifications (according to the short-stroke system of the barrel and subsequent locking with the help of the barrel protrusion). The last element enters the shutter window to remove the cartridges. The design provides a figured tide under the barrel, helping to reduce the vibration of weapons during firing.
The shutter part is made of steel by high precision casting, after which it is subjected to special treatment aimed at additional protection against wear and corrosion. The barrel is equipped with a hexagonal channel, the casing is also treated with special composition of the Tenifer type. Such protective spraying makes it possible to reach the Rockwell hardness limit of about 69 units. It is worth noting that the similar indicator for technical diamonds is 72.
The Glock trigger mechanism refers to the “safe action” mechanism. It includes three automatic fuses, one of which is placed on the trigger. The features of the USM of this kind include the possibility of partial cocking of the drummer during reloading, while the element is blocked by a fuse in automatic mode.
Drummer and Sight
The drummer is brought only when you pull the trigger, while it remains static until the full release release. This makes it possible to achieve uniform effort on the trigger from the first to the last volley. This feature positively affects the accuracy of firing. According to the standard, the pulling force is 2.5 kilograms.
The sighting mechanisms of the Glock 20 model are open-type devices located on the flat surface of the shutter housing. The front sight and the rear sight are inserted into the dovetail configuration sockets. There is a luminous dot on the device, a rectangular slot is edged with a illuminating frame. It is made of durable heat-resistant plastic.
Crank and power
The first issues of the gun in question were equipped with handles with flat cheeks with grooved surfaces. Later versions are equipped with recesses for the fingers on the front of the handle and small "sills" under the thumb on the sides. Under the barrel there is a system for attaching additional devices, including a tactical flashlight and a laser target pointer.
Glock 20 receives food in the form of ammunition from a regular removable-type box magazine. Ammunition in the amount of 15 pieces are arranged in two rows in a checkerboard pattern. As an alternative, a clip for ten charges in a row was proposed.
The considered pistol proved to be excellent as a weapon for self-defense, as well as as a hunting pistol. For these purposes, an interchangeable barrel with a length of 152 mm extending beyond the boundaries of the shutter was specially developed.
