The story of the appearance of Neryungri
The population of the small tent camp, created in 1940 in the Chulman River Valley, consisted exclusively of members of a geological exploration expedition. Soviet geologists arrived in this far corner of the Sahi with the intention of discovering a new gold deposit.
It is worth saying that already from the end of the seventeenth century Russian colonists and researchers arrived in this region, but for a long time in such a harsh climate they did not stop and moved on in search of new peoples and rich in fur forests.

In fact, a permanent tent settlement appeared at the mouth of the Neryungra River in 1952, simultaneously with the founding of the exploration party. However, the first overburden was made only eleven years later - in 1963. Four years later, coal mining began in the area of the campground and multi-storey buildings began to appear, which later formed a modern urban settlement.
