Historically, the introduction of the concept of "citizenship" and the understanding of its inhabitants is a unifying factor. It is believed that this helps eliminate the split in society, rallies the various classes, layers and groups of the population. This causes the unity of all people, which, of course, contributes to stabilization. No matter who it is and how much money it has, everyone becomes equal. This allows you to develop a single regulatory framework and apparatus to protect the interests of citizens. The government of the country where the foundations of civic identity are laid down can form a political system.

Civic education for schoolchildren of various ages

The civic identity of younger students and their older comrades is now becoming a topic of discussion in pedagogical, psychological and scientific circles. Indeed, a person must be aware of himself as a person from a very young age.

Civic education implies the following points:

  • impact on the psyche of the child;

  • supply of knowledge of a certain kind;

  • instilling a sense of love and respect for the motherland;

In each state, this concept is assigned a different meaning. Civic identity is a person’s sense of self as an integral part, an element of organized power. And it is she who must protect him from any negative manifestations of society.

Duality of the definition of the term

The concept of civic identity can be characterized from two perspectives. The first one says that this definition expresses a person’s belonging to a particular people of a particular state. The second position, in contrast to the previous one, argues that the introduction is not to a specific society, but to the totality of people as a whole. This theory confirms that a civilized person considers himself a collective subject.

Indeed, the first position identifies the two definitions and suggests that civic identity is citizenship. But it’s not enough to be part of the country according to the passport, the attitude to the state and the feeling of being part of it are important. The basis of a comprehensive opinion should be an understanding of the possibility of free choice and self-identification. A people in which there are foundations of a civic culture of the individual, with the help of the sphere of education laid certain qualities, such as patriotism, morality and tolerance.

Factors of the formation of civic identity

The existence of certain aspects affects the formation of public consciousness. In order for each resident of the country to be able to identify their citizenship, there must be a number of factors:

The history of the theory of education of a citizen

Civic identity - this is what worried people in ancient times. As a direction in the field of education, it was formed quite a long time ago, so that the problems were studied not only by modern thinkers. Having analyzed the opinions of historians and philosophers, we can conclude that the foundations of self-determination in this regard were laid down in ancient civilization. As the perception of this concept developed in society, so it itself became more educated and knowledgeable in this regard. This gives the right to argue that the nature of public relations is determined by the degree of implementation of the philosophy of civic education.

The formation of the civic identity of students was an important part of education in ancient Greece. It is the natives of these lands who left behind themselves the greatest works and the richest legacy of philosophical thought regarding science and pedagogy. For example, Plato, through his writings, expresses the importance of education for society and civic self-determination. This is evidenced by the names of his numerous works on education.

The follower of Plato, Aristotle, considered an integral part of the successful government of the country to cultivate a worthy generation with the right thoughts and ideas. In his opinion, the upbringing of young people is the key to maintaining the political system. He talked about how to influence the consciousness of children should begin at the age of seven years. Aristotle argued that the level of development and awareness should reach such a degree that a person was able to lead his own state.

Medievalism

Among the educators of the eighteenth century, it was believed that the formation of a national civic identity is impossible without a sufficient level of education. For stability in society, a certain percentage of such people was necessary. This opinion was shared by the greatest minds of his time - Russo, Didro, Pestalozzi, Helvetius. In the face of the Russian scientific community, K. D. Ushinsky was inclined to such an idea.

All these people argued that society can fully feel its strength and develop skills only if everyone uses the right to education. The state should provide an opportunity to get an education, because this is in the field of interests of the country.

Nineteenth century achievements

Thinkers of the nineteenth century introduced a new understanding of civic identity. In their opinion, the injustice of dividing society into classes and classes impedes the unity of the people and a sustainable understanding of individual rights. So claimed in the West in their utopian systems, Owen, Fourier, Marx and Engels. The Russian democrats, whose representatives were Chernyshevsky, Belinsky and Dobrolyubov, only supported this idea.

A single line permeated all their theoretical developments. According to them, property status, knowledge and honors in the process of social production are unimportant. All people in this sense are equal to each other.

The idea of ​​the American philosopher Dewey

The idea of ​​this American philosopher somewhat refreshed the concept of civic identification. She is the newest direction in the field of this education. From his work, we can conclude that the main idea is the formation of a democratic society. A person should not be imposed an opinion from the outside.

Dewey promoted the idea of ​​personality development. He argued that allowing self-expression was a much more effective method than external pressure. That is, you need to grow above yourself, relying not on the statements and texts of though wise, but strangers, but only on your own experience. Thus, one can only determine one's position by trial and error.

Dewey said that in children it was not necessary to develop individual abilities and skills, but to allow them to achieve small, but significant goals for them. The school should prepare the child for adulthood not only mentally, but also morally. It must be tempered, formed and independent. That is, it is necessary to educate young citizens not on the basis of static material written in textbooks, but to try to modernize it for the current period of time and keep up with the constantly developing world.

Soviet ideology

Modern Russian civil identity is largely due precisely to the period of the USSR. The standards of pedagogical science, such as Sukhomlinsky, Makarenko, Blonsky, Shatsky and Pinkevich, paid particular attention to this issue. All their works describe the methods of education, the organization of collective activity. But these people, like their work, are united by a universal appeal for the formation in children of feelings of love and respect for the motherland, family, history of their ancestors and all people.
