When traveling and walking around cities, you have probably come across more than once entertainment venues called "pubs." And you probably thought about what a pub is and how this foreign word is translated.

What is a pub and what does it eat with?

Pub (Eng. "Pub", the full name "Public house" - "public house", which means "a place of gathering people") - an institution that provides and sells alcoholic beverages that can be consumed both inside and outside its walls. Initially, these were drinking establishments in Britain and Ireland, but gradually they spread throughout Europe and corners of the world.

Pubs are considered important social and cultural objects of European cities, places of meetings and conversations of people. This is an area of life where visitors are not divided into nations and social strata, where everyone knows each other in person, where the bartender becomes a pleasant conversationalist and keeper of other people's secrets. To create a truly homely atmosphere, many bars and pubs equip fireplaces with live fires and invite musicians to entertain guests with live singing.

As for the interior, this is usually a small room with several tables and chairs, the main pride of which is the bar counter. Behind the latter is a bar with glasses, barrels and bottles of elite and not very alcoholic drinks.

Ancient traditions in a cozy pub atmosphere

The rapid penetration of foreign terms into our lives laid the foundation for the erroneous adoption of the pub as a pub. This word denotes a deeper concept. This is a cozy and friendly establishment, one might say, a domesticated place of British and Irish life. For some representatives of the nation, the pub becomes a second home, where they spend their time periodically three times a week and throughout their lives.

It is intended not only for drinking alcohol, a good snack and food, but also for talking with friends, holding parties, meeting people - in general, for a good rest. A person who has never visited such an institution is unlikely to understand what a pub is, he will not be able to imagine its special atmosphere and comfort.

Pub Laws

Despite the relaxedness and friendliness of the pubs, they have a set of laws in accordance with which they carry out their activities. They refuse to serve visitors under the age of 18 and do not open their doors before 11 a.m. They don’t sell alcohol later than 23:00, but give the regulars 20 minutes after closing time to finish the ordered drinks. These laws are the same for all visitors and institutions, even if it is a small beer pub.

Each pub has, as a rule, its regular customers who come here for various reasons: proximity to home or work, a non-smoking room, the presence of their own company for talking or playing darts, a favorite type of wine, ale or beer. The traditional restaurant provides guests with only alcoholic drinks, although snacks that are specially salted can also be served here in order to make the visitor thirsty.
