I want to tell you about an amazing cat - lynx. It is found in all forests of the European part of Russia: in the taiga strip of Siberia and the Caucasus.
Photographing them in nature is very difficult, it is a very careful and sensitive beast.
Lynx is a very large beast, its body length is from eighty to one hundred and fifty centimeters, and it weighs from eight to fifteen kilograms.
The lynx's tail is short, about thirty centimeters, on the ears are brushes of long hair, and on the cheeks are lush sideburns.
In an animal, the body of the dog is shortened, and the legs are tall and straight.
The color of the fur of the predator is from reddish-reddish to smoky-belusovy.
The paws of the lynx are very powerful, there are membranes between the fingers, thanks to them the beast easily moves along loose snow. In the movement of the lynx there is not that insinuating ease that is typical of cats. The animal walks straight and firmly, easily rearranging its high legs.
But the legs of the beast have an amazing ability to run fast, however, a lynx cannot run for a long time.
And yet, she is a real cat.
And what a wonderful lynx climber! She climbs trees so well that she can chase a squirrel or chase in pursuit, jumping from tree to tree. The lynx spends all day alone, but as soon as dusk sets in, it sets off in search of prey. The main prey of the lynx is hare hares. But constantly she also preys on grouse birds and small rodents. Less often, lynx attacks small ungulates: roe deer and sika deer, it can catch a fox.
Lynx is a dexterous and powerful predator. But she never jumps down on her victim from a tree, but patiently watches her in an ambush near the path. Or silently, with extraordinary caution, steals the object of his hunt, and then attacks him with great leaps.
The lynx has a very delicate hearing and perfect vision, but its instinct is weaker.
Lynx mating takes place in winter or early spring. At this time, silent males utter loud screams.
Pregnancy in females lasts from sixty to seventy days. A cat gives birth to no more than three kittens. Only in the first days of life, mother feeds babies with milk, then begins to feed them. By the beginning of winter, kittens themselves already begin to hunt. Mother does not drive them away from herself, walks with them until spring.
The lynx cat makes its nest in caves, under the roots of trees or in crevices of rocks.
Both parents raise their kittens.
Once in the hands of man, the lynx is well tamed.
Subtle hearing and the ability to see in the dark have repeatedly saved the life of a predator. Dark and thick thickets helped to leave and hide from hunters. The sister of our Russian lynx is the Canadian lynx. She has her own differences.
Canadian Lynx, like all animals in the cat family, is a very sneaky predator. She also will not attack large animals. When you run after her, she will stop, begin to snort and raise her fur on end.
