The Krasnodar Territory is wide plains, green mountain meadows, golden beaches, gentle waters of seas and rivers, dense virgin forests. This is a fertile place to live and an excellent resort for wellness and relaxation. This area is famous for its rich flora and fauna. Those unique creations that the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory is on display for general public require special attention.

It describes many plants and living creatures that need guardianship and protection, deserve a careful attitude. They are represented by the following types:

  • fauna: mammals, amphibians, fish, reptiles, birds, insects, crustaceans, mollusks, worms;

  • plant world: various algae, pine-shaped, magnoliophytes, plauiform, bryophytes, mushrooms.

It is impossible to describe all the species that the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory contains; we will consider only a few of them.

Mammals

Quite a lot of mammals are called the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory. Animals are represented by 26 names. Basically, they include various species of bats, but there are also those that belong to the family of mustelids, cats, bovids, and even dolphins, represented among others by the Black Sea bottlenose dolphin.

The population of dolphins of this species is rapidly decreasing, maybe very soon it will be impossible to enjoy the graceful jumps of these amazing creatures, to hear their piercing cries, with which they are probably trying to tell us something. After all, dolphins after humans are the most intelligent creatures on Earth, but they are not adapted to the conditions of our lives. The Black Sea is polluted by industrial waste, dolphins fall under the keels of fishing vessels, they are ruthlessly destroyed by cruel amateurs of entertainment. Bottlenose dolphins live for about 30 years, bear cubs every 2-3 years for 12 months, somewhere the same time they feed him. By the way, bottlenose dolphins better than other species endure captivity, and can even live and breed near humans, and also delight us and our children with amazing tricks in dolphinariums.

Birds

Many families (stork, duck, falcon, black grouse, crane and others) contains the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory. The birds represented in it are truly diverse and their number is very large.

The black stork is a very rare, endangered species of beautiful graceful birds. They live far from human habitation, therefore their way of life is poorly studied. It is only known that these birds are monogamous and always remain faithful to their chosen one, which is not so common in the animal kingdom. Also, the male can very beautifully look after the female and sing her “serenades”.

There is a beautiful legend about the appearance of a black stork. Once the storks were only white and always settled next to people, but once a cruel man set fire to a tree on which their nest was located, and it burned down along with helpless chicks. Storks rushed into the fire, trying to help their children, but could not save them. And their wings were blackened by burns. Since then, their descendants have been black. From grief, these storks harbored resentment against people and began to settle only in the wilderness. Who knows what is true here and what is fiction. But black storks, indeed, do not like to live near people, but they are dying out anyway …

Plants

Not only the fauna is protected by the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory, the plants that are presented on its pages are not less numerous and have great value. One of them is fig.

Fig (or fig tree, fig tree) is listed in the Red Book and is protected from destruction. This is not only a medicinal plant that helps to cure many diseases, the fruits of this tree are a healthy treat. Unusually tasty jam and jam are brewed from it.

The history of figs is truly unique. It originates in ancient Rome, in the legend of Romulus and Remus. It mentions that the she-wolf feeding them was discovered under a bush of figs. And in the historical chronicles of Ancient Rome there is a note that the bush of the fig tree unexpectedly grew on the Roman forum.

Figs were glorified by great people, miraculous properties were attributed to its fruits, and the tree itself was revered as sacred. In ancient Greece, the fig tree was so honored that it was even forbidden to export outside the state.

Today, figs are a tree to which they are treated only by consumers, not thinking that it can also disappear.

Water inhabitants

The Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory contains a large number of species of fish that are endangered. Among them are a thorn, a lamprey, a Ukrainian beluga, a sterlet, a white-eyed, a char, a mustache, a white croaker, and others. Also, the danger is threatened by a yellow trigger from a squad-like squad.

Trigla yellow (or sea rooster) is not only a delicious dish that can decorate your table. This is still an exotic and very attractive fish. It is unusual in that it can not only swim, but also fly. To do this, she has large, wing-like, pectoral fins. The color of this fish is really amazing, there are brick red, brown, silver-white, pink, bluish-lilac, purple and bluish shades. Due to pollution of water bodies and constant catch, it may soon disappear, and the world will lose another bright outstanding specimen.

Reptiles

The Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory contains a list of a number of reptiles, which are subject to our care and protection. These are newts, toads, frogs, turtles, lizards and snakes. Particular attention in this category should be given to an endangered species - the Nikolsky tortoise (Mediterranean tortoise). She faces a complete disappearance! And it exists on our Earth for 200 million years.

In Sochi, a special project was launched aimed at protecting this species. An ecological and biological center was created where the found turtles are settled in conditions that are optimal for them.
