A bit of history

Interestingly, the very first peacekeeper was called Emperor Alexander III. He did everything possible for him to ensure that the state and its people live in peace, peace and silence.

Russia, before his reign, survived many wars. Alexander III wanted the country to recover, gain strength and strengthen. After all, so much was destroyed, many families lost breadwinners in endless wars.

Interestingly, all the decrees related to the borders and their strengthening were signed only by agreement with the leaders of other countries. All that the emperor did was only for peace. For this he was nicknamed the peacemaker.

Peacemaker - who is it?

Already by the very word, one can understand that a peacemaker is a "world of creation." Their main task and goals are to stop the bloodshed and stop the war. They cannot take either side, but they are entitled to defend themselves if attacked, even by opening fire.

Peacemaker is a military man, serving, as a rule, under a contract, and contributing to the establishment and restoration of peaceful relations.

When peacekeeping appeared

For the first time, the very concept of “peacekeeping” arose in connection with a UN decree in the distant post-war 1945. The UN itself was created with the goal of maintaining "world peace." There, any country can raise the issue of conflicts and threats from threatening peoples.

The heads of the warring states have the opportunity, in a personal meeting in the presence of intermediaries, to discuss all the misunderstandings and come to a peaceful solution.

If most of the participating countries are against the conflict, then this will take effect, and the problem is usually resolved peacefully.

The very first operation, when the introduction of peacekeepers was required, occurred in 1956 during the conflict in Palestine. Peacekeepers could not intervene; they observed at the border and reported on all actions of the parties to the Security Council.

The UN has already decided what to do to ensure that the parties comply with the conditions set, and what to do to stop the hostilities.

The main activities of UN peacekeepers

  1. Peacekeepers have a lot of work after the fading of conflicts. After all, war is mines, unexploded ordnance, weapons. All this must be neutralized, destroyed, and help people enter a peaceful life. This is a very important part of their mission, because how often, after the war, people are blown up by mines, or children find weapons, shells.

  2. UN peacekeeping organization calls for the complete completion of the production of mines. And also urges to completely abandon their use and export to other countries.

  3. Agreements have been concluded on a complete ban on testing nuclear weapons anywhere, and zones are expanding where such weapons are completely prohibited.

  4. Arms trade is suppressed. They take special care of the children, because during the war so often children die, being blown up by mines, they are shot during local showdowns or accidental shootings.
