Moscow Ring Railway (MKZD) is a looped railway line in Moscow. It appeared in 1908 and was used to transport goods between the main railway directions, diverging in different directions from the center of the Russian capital.

The article describes the features of MKZhD and provides a scheme with stations of the Moscow Ring Railway.

Electric Train Launch

This road is also called the Small Ring of the Moscow Railway (MK MKZhD) or the Moscow District Railway (MOZHD).

Since 2016, electric trains were launched along the railway ring. In relation to them, this line is called the Moscow Central Ring (MCC). It is also included in the Moscow metro system with a single fare. In relation to the metro, it is called the "Second Ring Line" and has a serial number of 14.

This railway ring is not quite round in shape. In the southern part, it runs only 5 km from the Kremlin, and in the north-western part it goes 12 km. The figure shows the layout of the MCC with stations.

Line infrastructure

The scheme with stations of the Moscow Ring Railway does not provide information about its infrastructure. The railway ring has 2 tracks that share a common electrification system. However, in the northern part there is another electrified route, which is used for freight traffic. The total length of the ring is 54 km. In some places, electrification of paths is absent.

To connect the ring with the radial lines of the main directions, connecting railway branches are used, a significant part of which is not electrified. Among them are single-track and double-track. Other branches are forks leading to industrial enterprises.

At Moskovskaya, at the roundabout, there are 12 operating stations for freight trains and 31 platforms for electric trains.

Types of passenger trains

The scheme with stations of the Moscow Ring Railway does not contain information about the structure of the ring. For passenger traffic use the electric trains "Swallow", which are produced in the Urals. Each electric train includes 5 wagons. They are operated both single and double.

In the future, it is planned to use trains of the Oriole series, which are produced at the Tver Carriage Works, for passenger traffic. They also consist of 5 wagons.

Freight and service locomotives

Freight services are provided by locomotive locomotive depot Likhobory-District. The preservation of fuel thrust, despite the electrification of tracks, is associated with its absence on many dumps and station sections of freight tracks. In 2017, the fleet of freight trains was based on diesel locomotives of the 2M62 and 2M62U brands. They are also used for transit traffic. The maneuverable locomotives ChME3 and TEM7A are also used. They are used in small compositions for maneuvering. In the past, various steam locomotive models have been used. However, since the 50s of the last century, they began to be replaced by diesel locomotives.

Gradually, the old diesel locomotive models were replaced with new ones. In addition to the above, on official landfills, diesel locomotives and electric locomotives of low power are used: diesel locomotives TGM23 and TGM4, as well as a miniature electric locomotive EPM3B. The latter works at the connection of the Moscow ring and the tram network, being a kind of intermediary between them. In addition to the above, official inspection locomotives with a characteristic appearance are also involved in the ring.
