Kstovo is one of the cities of the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia. This city is located on the right (i.e., western) bank of the Volga River. Nizhny Novgorod is 15 km away. The Volga M7 highway and the railway line run through the city. The city is crossed by a tributary of the Volga - the Kudma River. The population of Kstov is 67, 723 people.

History of the city

Previously, on the site of the current city was a village called Kstovskaya. It has been known since the 14th century. Tatar and Mordovian tribes were widespread here. Frequent occupation of the population was weaving, burlachestvo and otkhodnichestvo. In Soviet times, oil refining was actively developing in the village and the Kstovo oil refining plant was built, as well as a thermal power plant and other industrial facilities.

In 1957, the village receives city status. The structure of the city now includes the village of Vishenka, which is the site for the cultivation of the Vishensky onion variety.
