This lake with sparsely populated shores is the largest and one of the most picturesque in the Leningrad region. Its name comes from the miraculous somero and translates as "coarse sand". Description

The lake is located near the village of the same name (formerly Pesye), in two districts: Luga and Slantsy. Its length is about 9 kilometers, wide - almost 7 kilometers. It has the form of a rounded reservoir with a swampy coast. The surface area is 40.4 square meters. km The coastline is a little over 25 kilometers. Its banks in some parts are overgrown with reeds and shrubs. Amazingly beautiful landscapes stretch around the lake. Mixed forests grow here among numerous hills covered with a variety of vegetation.

There are a lot of fish on Lake Samro. Especially good peck tench and crucian carp. You can also catch rudd and pike. Good fishing on the lake both in summer and in winter.

Along the western shore, tench and large crucian carp are perfectly caught. The weight of the fish can reach up to 2 kg. The best nozzle for crucian carp is the dung worm, and for tench, 2-3 worms in a bunch. After a spawning period, local bream stays mainly on the western part of Lake Samro, and in the middle of summer it moves to deeper places on the eastern shore, where it is perfectly caught by fishing rods with a nozzle made of dough, maggots or a bunch of worms. Not very large rudd (up to 200 g) can be caught on a worm on the west bank. Pike mainly lives along the edge of a deep trench. In the summer, this fish is in the grass, where you can catch it on floating wobblers and poppers. In the lake you can also catch large perch, weighing up to 1 kilogram. They prefer to stick to the sand and pebble bottom between the underwater boulders of the eastern shore of the lake.

In winter, a good bite in shallow water on the first ice. Later you can catch pike and perch, which are kept in depths up to 5 meters. A good catch on the last ice may be at the mouth of the river. Mines at depths of up to 1.5 meters.

How to get there

Getting to this wonderful lake is easy enough. By personal car you can move along Tallinn or along the Kiev highway.

The intermediate point is the village of Osmino, after which the path continues in a south-westerly direction along the road to Zaustezhye. Then, after about 16 kilometers, there is the final point - the village of Samro. There is a dirt road to the reservoir.
