Krivoy Rog can rightfully be considered a city of monuments. Its streets and squares are decorated with dozens of different statues in honor of famous writers, composers, politicians, war heroes and underground. What are the most famous monuments of Krivoy Rog?

Kryvyi Rih - the city of monuments and memorials

In this large industrial city there are a lot of historical and memorial structures. These include various monuments, memorials, monuments, steles, memorials and mass graves. All these objects have not only educational and patriotic significance, but also aesthetic, because they are based on sculpture as one of the directions in art.

In total, in Krivoy Rog there are over a hundred of such facilities. Including - 47 sculptural monuments, 43 commemorative signs, 17 memorials and mass graves. They are dedicated to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, prominent statesmen and city figures, writers and poets, composers, etc. The most famous monuments of Krivoy Rog are the Victory monument, the Heroes stela, monuments to Cossack Rog, Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Alexander Pushkin, Alexander Polyu, the memorial "Clock of Memory" and others.

It is worth noting that before Krivoy Rog was a leader city in the post-Soviet space in terms of the number of statues installed to V.I. Lenin. In total there were 13 of them in the city limits! However, in 2014, a wave of destruction of monuments of the Soviet era swept across Ukraine, which was popularly known as the Leninopad. She did not pass by and Krivoy Rog. As a result, all the monuments to Lenin, as well as sculptures of Dzerzhinsky, Artem and Karl Liebknecht, were demolished in the city.

Nevertheless, on the streets and parks of the city there are still many beautiful and majestic monuments. This is the Victory monument, 14 meters high, erected in honor of the liberation of Krivoy Rog from the Nazi invaders, the unique Stela of Heroes adorned with 62 Kryvyi Rih minerals, a lyrical monument to the great Russian poet A. S. Pushkin, and many, many others.

Monument to the Horn in Krivoy Rog: description

On the plate near the most iconic monument for Krivoy Rog it is written: "Cossack Horn". It is this Cossack who is considered the founder of the city. And supposedly in honor of his nickname, the village itself was named on the banks of the Ingulets and Saksagan rivers.

Was there really such a person, it is not known exactly. However, many Kryvyi Rih residents do not doubt its existence. Legend has it that the Cossack Horn owned a tavern on the site of the modern city center, which was often visited by Chumaks.

Monument to the Horn in Krivoy Rog depicts a Cossack with a horse. The sculpture is made of bronze and mounted on a massive block of ferruginous quartzite. The height of the monument is about five meters, and its total weight (together with the pedestal) is 65 tons.

Monument history

The Horn Monument in Krivoy Rog was erected only in 2011. Although the idea to perpetuate the legendary founder of the city appeared in the early 90s with the then mayor of Krivoy Rog - Grigory Gutovsky. The author of the sculptural composition was the famous architect A. Vasyakin. The monument was to be installed in the park named after the newspaper Pravda in the historical center of the city.

However, the deep economic crisis of the 90s prevented the realization of this idea. They were able to reanimate it only in 2011. The monument was completed, cast in bronze and solemnly opened near the city executive committee on the eve of City Day.
