How did the park come about?

The history of one of the places frequented by city dwellers and guests of the city for leisure activities began with a small garden, which was set up not far from the commandant's office in the Vladikavkaz fortress (XIX century).

The modern park is divided into upper and lower terraces. At that time, Commandant Park occupied only the upper one. The place immediately gained popularity, and some important changes took place in its history. The city authorities considered that the park needed an administrator, and M. Erofeev was appointed to this position. Thanks to his initiative, a lower terrace appeared in the park, which stretched to the banks of the Terek River. At the same time, the Commandant Garden was renamed the "City Park".

After 30 years, the authorities again changed their name to "Track", since a velodrome appeared here. It was the end of the 19th century. Until the 20th century, thanks to the efforts of the authorities, it was possible to visit the zoo, baths, a boat station in the park or sit by the ponds, which were used as a skating rink in the cold season. The name of the park is also changing - now instead of "Track" it is known as "Monplaisir". So he remains until the advent of Soviet power, and then renamed the "Proletarian". The place of rest got its modern name only in 1939, when the townspeople celebrated the 80th anniversary of the outstanding Ossetian artist Kosta Khetagurov.

Park Attractions

Today it remains one of the favorite places in the city. The fact is that the Central Park named after Khet Khetagurov is located in the center of Vladikavkaz - the main entrance is located on Prospekt Mira. This street can be confidently called the main one in the city, as there are a variety of government organizations, entertainment venues and cultural sites.

The main entrance to the Khetagurov Central Park is decorated with a bas-relief of the poet on one side and lines from a poem he wrote on the other. Entrance leads to the upper terrace. We can say that this part of the park has retained its original appearance - there are many trees, benches and noisy attractions. Among the trees hid sculptural compositions. During state and national holidays, various events are held here dedicated to memorable events and dates. Two stairs lead from the upper terrace to the lower one. The first is wide, even, with straight steps. The second is ornate, with narrow steps framed by stones of a natural form.

On the lower terrace there is a fountain, a pond and bridges. Also here are the "Mountain Gate", a Chinese gazebo. If you go to the left side of the fountain, you can get into quiet alleys with streets and a tennis court. If you go right, you can go towards the exhibition hall, noisy attractions and a contact zoo. Here are cozy street cafes.

Among the attractions of the park are the Steingel mansion and the mass grave for the soldiers of the Soviet army. Vladimir Rudolfovich Steingel was a philanthropist and, having built a house, according to one version, he sold it without even a day in it, and according to another, he presented it to the city. In the middle of the XX century there was an orphanage, and now there is a park administration.
