The name of the complex

Many people think that the park-hotel Manor Meshcherskaya has something to do with the Meshchersky family, whose estates are located in several places in Russia. But this is not so. The name of the complex comes from the name of the area in which it is located. The Meshchera region, in turn, is named after the ancient Meshchera tribe.

This land is at the junction of the Moscow, Vladimir and Ryazan regions. It is famous for emerald swamps and lakes, quiet rivers, amber pine forests, bright birch groves and abundant fauna. The Meshchersky Territory was repeatedly praised by Konstantin Paustovsky. According to the writer, it is to this wondrous nature that he owes most of his works.

The abundance of plant species of the Meshchersky region is due to the fact that it is located in the transition zone between broadleaf forests and taiga. Here live animals such as elk, fox, beaver, marten, ferret, as well as many birds of prey and waterfowl.

Well, the possessions of the Meshchersky family are not related to this marvelous area and certainly to the hotel park, which we are talking about today.

In fairness, let's get acquainted with one of the estates of the Meshchersky.

The estate of the princes Meshchersky

In the village of Dugino, which is located in the Smolensk region, there is a manor, which, like the village, was transferred from hand to hand many times before 1783 and returned to state ownership. First, the estate belonged to Prince Romodansky, then to the nobles Nikolai Korf and Matvey Kashtalinsky. And in 1783, Catherine II transferred the estate to the famous statesman - Count Panin. Therefore, this place is often called the Panins estate. In 1837, when the count passed away, the estate was inherited by his granddaughter - Maria Alexandrovna. Later, she became the princess of Meshcherskaya. Thus, the last owner of the estate was Count Meshchersky.

The estate was a park of stunning beauty, located on the banks of the picturesque Vazuza River. Oaks, Caucasian lindens and birches were planted on the alleys of the park. Lush white willows leaned over the river, supposedly protected by Canadian poplars. A green fir grove was visible near the park. The park had an area of 34 hectares and looked like a real botanical garden. Among the residential buildings of the estate were the main house, a “hook house”, an outbuilding and a servant's house. As can be seen in the photo, the princes' dwelling was quite pompous. Now the abandoned Meshchersky estate has lost its former beauty and luxury, overgrown with bushes and began to slowly collapse.
