Appaloosa: description, history of origin

The birthplace of the Appaloosa breed is the territory of the Palouse River (northern United States). And today she is bred in Canada and the western United States.

Even in ancient times, people appreciated spotted horses. This is evidenced by the found images of such animals in ancient caves, which are located in France. These paintings, apparently, were made more than 20 thousand years ago. Similar cave paintings were also found in Asia, in China.

At one time, the Spaniards brought these horses to North America during the era of the Great Geographical Discoveries. And their help was in time - to facilitate the study of American continents. Over time, the appaloosa (horse) has taken root in the life of the Indians. They bred these animals, exchanged and sold them to different tribes. Slowly their number increased, the suit improved, and at the beginning of the XVIII century, most of the inhabitants of Northwest America began to ride on such horses.

The Indians in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon (the Nez Perce tribe) were excellent horse breeders, and all their horses, including swag specimens, were very much appreciated and envied by other tribes.

It is known that this tribe was the only one that contributed to the consolidation of the characteristic features in these horses - agility and amazing quick wits. They left the best of them for breeding, and the rest they sold and exchanged.

With the extermination of people of the Nez Perce tribe, after the conquest of the continent by Europeans, the most unique horses also began to disappear.

Appaloosa Conservation Society

Until 1938, nothing significant was done to preserve appalois, until one of the farmers, Claude Thompson from Oregon (Moro), who was involved in the cultivation of wheat, created the Appaloosa Fans Club. This society was engaged in restoring a unique animal stock.

The society still exists and unites true enthusiasts and amateurs.

This horse is characterized to a greater extent by its specific suit than high-speed, albeit not bad qualities.

The nature and character of the horse

Representatives of the breed from ancient times lived next to humans, so animals are flexible and have a good-natured character.

Having a calm disposition, good abilities, beautiful appearance, unique color and good-natured character, the horse of appaloosa is in demand and not only is an assistant in various spheres of life, but can also become a real devoted friend, especially for young children.

Care and maintenance

Caring for a pause, like any other breed of horse, is simple. Before going to the arena or for a walk, it is necessary to clean and saddle it. Today there are a wide variety of devices and tools for horse care: brushes of different sizes (with hard and soft, with natural and artificial bristles) for hooves; body cleaning brushes; various combs for mane and tail care; scrapers for removal of strong pollution; hooks to remove stuck items from hooves, etc.

It is important to thoroughly clean the horse so that nowhere on his back there are sawdust accompanying rubbing his back with a saddle. After riding, try to put on a blanket over her, and in the stable remove her. Then you should thoroughly wash absolutely all parts of her body. It should always be remembered that it is necessary to take care of the horse leisurely and calmly.

Under what conditions should horses of the breed of appaloosa be kept?

Undoubtedly, choosing the right stable solves many care problems. The room should have stalls (horses are in them), playpens and more spacious open rooms for people. Moreover, it is advisable to have, if possible, 2 arenas (necessarily one warm, for winter). Very good stalls are spacious (comfortable for turning the horse), separate for each animal, and if water is supplied to them.

As for feeding appaloosa, it should be noted that it is almost the same as in other domestic animals. It consists of food and drink. Water must always be clean. The main food is oats, hay as a top dressing, as well as all kinds of additives to maintain shape. In addition, the horse will not give up treats in the form of carrots or sugar.
