Often we make many demands on others. We want them to be clean, to take care of the environment and their hometown. However, expecting this from others, how often do we ourselves comply with our own rules? Or are we above this?
Most cities spend huge amounts on cleaning and recycling. This is all done so that its residents can enjoy the purity and beauty of their native streets. However, this does not mean that citizens themselves should not care about the world around them. Indeed, in fact, it is they who are the main source of garbage on the streets.
In order to prove this in practice, the authorities of the city of Lille in France conducted an interesting social experiment.
Plastic cup and urn
The essence of the experiment was as follows. In the middle of the public square, a litter bin was installed. An empty plastic cup was placed next to her, which now and then fell under the feet of passers-by. Hidden cameras were also installed around the urn to record what was happening.
The experiment began early in the morning, and before its completion, hundreds of people passed the urn without ever looking at the plastic cup. In the end, observers have already decided that their plan will go to dust. But then one of the passersby nevertheless stopped and raised a glass, and then threw it into the tank.
What was the man’s surprise when the prepared people began to leave the crowd and thank him for his perfect deed. Later, the video from the cameras was mounted and uploaded to YouTube in order to make people think about this social problem.
