In history, a long time ago the need arose to describe the political manifestation of a persistent desire to return the territories lost by the country. Therefore, the term “revenge” was introduced, which includes in the motivation for such actions not only patriotic, but also economic factors of influence.
What is revenge?
The definition of this concept can be given quite clearly. This is the desire of countries, public or party groups to review the results of their political or military losses. But if the term “revenge” is fairly neutral, then the concept of “revenge” has a negative connotation. Such an action may not apply to all losing states, but only to those that initiated unjust, but active aggression.
Revanchism is a political action, the beginning of which lies in silencing or diminishing responsibility for the country's own aggressive actions, and ends with a complete denial of involvement and guilt. Then appeals to the outcome of a new military battle may follow, in order to win back the territories lost during the previous battle, political importance or to restore the previous system of relations between states.
Revanchism is a policy that, in the absence of restraining forces, can become the country's ideology and the foundation of the state system.
