Childhood
Evgeny Biryukov was born in April 1986 in the city of Kasli (Chelyabinsk region). From early childhood, his father, a former professional athlete, instilled in the boy a love of sports. Eugene tried himself in basketball and skiing, and then his choice fell on hockey.
At the age of twelve, Biryukov and his family moved to Magnitogorsk. A young man who was considered too old to start learning hockey came to the local sports section. There he went through a viewing, and in a tightly built tall guy, the coaches noticed the ability to play in defense.
The first steps in hockey
In 2003, Evgeny Biryukov was declared a member of the second Metallurg team (Magnitogorsk), which played in the third Russian division. However, in that season, the 17-year-old promising defender on the ice never came out.
In the next championship, Eugene got a chance to show his game. He became the main player, went on the ice in 66 matches, in which he scored 3 goals and gave 10 assists. Such results did not go unnoticed by both the leadership of the youth team of Russia and the coaching staff of the main Metallurg team from Magnitogorsk.
Single player
Yevgeny Biryukov’s sports biography includes only one hockey club - Metallurg from Magnitogorsk. The young defender began to play for the first team in the 2005/06 season. In his debut championship for Russia, he played in 39 matches, in which he scored 3 (1 + 2) points.
The next season was the champion for Evgeny Biryukov. In the regular championship in 48 games, the hockey player scored one goal and five times assisted teammates, and in the playoff series he scored two precise assists. That season, “Metallurg” in the finals snatched victory from Kazan “Ak Bars” and became the owner of the champion title.
Since 2008, a team from Magnitogorsk has been participating in the Continental Hockey League. Hockey player Evgeny Biryukov became an indispensable player of the basic structure. In the 2008/09 championship, he sets a personal performance record by scoring 11 (3 + 8) points in 55 fights, and his team reaches the semifinals of the playoff series.
After two seasons, the defender of Metallurg is improving its performance. In 54 games, he scored two goals and gave 13 assists.
After two relatively unsuccessful seasons in the 2013/14 KHL draw, Biryukov has another league title. This season, his Metallurg first confidently dealt with all the rivals in the Kharlamov division of the Eastern Conference, and the Admiral, Sibir, Salavat Yulaev and Lev teams won in the playoff series. The defender scored 14 assists in 56 regular season games, scored one goal in 21 playoff games and assisted teammates twice.
Despite the desire of many clubs to see Evgenia Biryukov in his squad, he still remains loyal to his first team, with which he invariably becomes a member of the KHL playoff series. With her, the defender twice (in 2006 and 2011) won the Gagarin Cup. In the 2016/17 season, Metallurg stopped a step away from the championship, losing in the final to SKA from St. Petersburg. Performances for the Russian team
Evgeny Biryukov was first called to the junior team in 2004. In its composition, the defender of Metallurg played in six fights at the U-18 World Cup and became the gold medalist of the tournament.
In 2006, Eugene, as a player of the youth team, became the silver medalist of the world championship. At the tournament, he played in 6 fights, in which he scored four assists.
Starting in 2007, the defender is beginning to be involved in the training camp of the main Russian team. However, the first award had to wait five whole years. At the World Championships in Sweden, Eugene won the gold medal of the tournament. In the victory for the Russian national team, Biryukov went on the ice in seven fights, scored one goal against the Italian national team and three times assisted team partners.
After the failed World Cup 2013 and the failed home Olympics, the next chance to prove himself to Eugene fell in 2015. At the world championship in Prague, Biryukov together with the Russian team became the second. The defender played in two fights and scored one assists.
