According to the latest data from the All-Russian population census, there are 181 settlements in the country that fall under the category of “rural settlement”. Of these, 95 clearly fall under the term "village" and more than 1 thousand people live in them. But most of these villages nevertheless fall under the concept of “urban-type settlement”.

Terminology

Where is the largest village in the world? But, not understanding the term “village”, it is rather difficult to determine which category a particular locality belongs to. The concept of "village" is not present in all countries, in most states of the former USSR, Israel and Bulgaria.

On the territory of Russia before the revolution there was a clear gradation. The "village" is actually a rural settlement, but there was no church in it. If it was a question of a “village”, then it necessarily had a church and possibly not one. In fact, the village united several villages and was the center of the church parish. Later, after the revolution, such a clear distinction ceased to exist. The main distinguishing feature of all settlements of this type from the city is the predominant occupation of the local population by agriculture.

New Usman

This is one of the largest villages in the world by population, but which never made it into the Guinness Book. In 2010, it was even in the first position in terms of population: 29.270 thousand people lived there, and at that time Aleksandrovsky was no more than 27 thousand people. New Usman is located in the Voronezh region, only 8 kilometers from the city of Voronezh.

The settlement was founded in 1598. From 1601 to 1602 the governor Sobakin B.V. acquired land here and they began to call them "Sobakina Polyana". By 1746, in the settlement, there were more than 2 thousand people who lived in 785 yards.

Already in 1917, Soviet power was established in the village, but literally a year later there was an uprising, which was suppressed by force.

Several industrial enterprises operate in the village: for the production of sunflower oil, for the production of mirrors, soles for shoes, thermoplastics, a concrete plant, an enterprise for the production of sausages and the KROST technopark.

Alexandrovskoe

The largest village in the world, which has long been competing with other applicants for this title. Aleksandrovskoe is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. As early as 1785, the village was turned into a county town. But with the advent of Pyatigorsk, the title was taken away from Alexandrovsky. In the future, even during the Soviet Union, it either became a city, then an urban-type settlement, then a village, which to this day has been called since 1924.

As of the beginning of 2010, 27 thousand 471 people lived here.

Tourists who managed to get to this place note that the village is very green and clean, and because of the sufficiently large length, public transport even runs here.

Kochubeyevskoe

This is another settlement that can rightfully be called the largest village in the world. It is also located in the Stavropol Territory and 25.679 people live here, as of the beginning of this year. Administratively, the village is assigned to the municipality of the same name, in which there is only a single settlement - Kochubeyevskoye.

It was formed due to the unification of the Russian village of Olginsky and two German colonies: Alexandrodar and the Grand Duchess (Voldemflust). Even in Soviet times, the industry was well developed in the village, machine-building enterprises, light industry and food factories worked. Today in the village there is the largest enterprise for the production of building mixtures, producing them under the brand name Ceresit, there is also a quarry and a breeding factory.

The settlement occupies 141.96 square meters. km, which gives the right to call it the largest village in the world by area. An interesting fact is that this year, on the initiative of local authorities, an online survey was conducted regarding the assignment of city status to the village of Kochubeyevskoye. It turned out that 93.67% of the total population that passed the survey were opposed to obtaining status.

Another interesting fact is that in the village of Velikoknyazheskoe, which became part of Kochubeyevsky, in the family of Dutch Germans, the mother of Anna German, Irma Martens, was born in 1909.
