The village of Kamenki (Nizhny Novgorod region) is a settlement that was considered a volost center before the revolution. The name of the place is due to the abundance of stone houses. Previously, he was called Kamenka Nikolsky because of the church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The history of this village is interesting, which will be discussed later.

A look into history

The improvement of society and the welfare of people living on the lands of the Bogorodsky district were largely determined by the discovery of iron deposits. It lay at a shallow depth. The extraction of iron made it possible to produce axes, plowshares. During this period, Mordovian peoples lived on these lands.

The original Russian villages of the Bogorodsky district were formed in the 9th-10th centuries. At first, people settled near the rivers. They were attracted by spacious and fertile places, so that the settlement proceeded at a rapid pace.

When the village of Kamenki was founded (Bogorodsky district of the Nizhny Novgorod region), there is no exact data. Historians believe that this is the XIII-XIV centuries. The place is located on a hill. Below the river Unkor flows, it is the right water inflow of Kudmy.

The villagers have long been making bricks, living in stone houses. Not far from Kamenok, the town of Red Brick has been preserved.

The name of the village of Kamenka of the Nizhny Novgorod region according to the second version is due to the presence of granite stones in this area, preserved from the ice age. These stones were in large numbers here, they made the foundations and were actively used in construction.

In ancient times, the village was a central transport and trade center. Here a monument was erected to Alexander II, which was demolished by the Communists. Surely a religious procession came to these lands.

The names of the soldiers were inscribed on a marble monument located in the center of the village. Two of them are called heroes of the Soviet Union. These are tanker Lobasov and Colonel Chigin, after whom the street in the settlement "Polyanka" was named.

Particular attention is paid to the writer Eremin, who studied in Kamenka and later worked as a teacher. The museum has autographed books by the author.

Each year the museum welcomes about 500 visitors, the bulk of them are schoolchildren. Today the museum is headed by another school teacher G.I. Zamotaev. Today, the village administration is actively working to preserve the cultural heritage of these lands.

Temples

In the village of Kamenka, Nizhny Novgorod Region, two wooden churches were built:

  • Miracle Worker Nicholas - created approximately in the XVII century;

  • Prince Alexander Nevsky - date of construction is unknown.

The second temple was warm, but it burned down in 1808. The Church of Nicholas was destroyed in 1820 due to its dilapidation.

In 1804, they began to build the temple of Sofia, the Wisdom of God of stone. In 1809, the Ilyinsky chapel was consecrated, and in 1826 the second chapel. Since ancient times, many valuable icons and spiritual literature have been kept here.

Earlier, a chapel was placed at the Ilyinsky Altar over the burial place of Elder Peter Dmitrievich. This ascetic was born in 1734, his father was a deacon. Peter from childhood lived in the Christian faith, went into the forest for solitary prayer. In the forest, he built a cave where he communicated with God far from prying eyes. Pilgrims flocked to Peter, to each of them Peter found what to say in comfort and instruction. The ascetic died in 1814. A chapel was erected at the place of his burial.

In 1938, the church was given over to the warehouse. It was possible to restore it by 2009, at the same time a liturgy was held in it. Today, the church still needs restoration work, for which, sometimes, there is not enough money. A procession with the Oran icon of the Mother of God comes to Kamenka annually.
