Sergey Nilevich Gimaev - hockey player, coach and commentator. Born in 1955 in the Byelorussian SSR. He was married, had two children. The son stands for the Vityaz hockey club, and her daughter first engaged in figure skating, and later became a coach. Sergei Nailievich passed away in March 2017 on ice during a game between hockey veterans, which was held in Tula. For several minutes, the doctors did everything possible to save Gimaev, but death came instantly. The cause of death was coronary heart disease, caused by atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries.
Junior Career
Sergey Nilevich Gimaev grew up in a sports environment. He attended basketball, football, and was interested in gymnastics. When the guy turned 11 years old, his parents insisted that he try his hand at hockey. At first, he did little to succeed. Only 4 years later he was able to get into the youth team of the hockey club "Salavat Yulaev", in the sports school of which he had been training all these years. Over time, the sport began to occupy an increasingly important place in the life of young Sergey. However, the guy did not give up studying at school. Only in high school did he have a few fours.
After school, Sergei became a student at the Aviation Institute. Even before entering, he played for the youth team “Salavat Yulaev”. After 4 years of study at the institute, he decided to take an academic leave, because he could not combine his studies and hockey performances. Because of the "academician" Gimaev was called to undergo military service.
Becoming a Soviet sports star
In the hockey Sergey Nailievich Gimaev did not stop playing in the army. While serving, he became a SKA player from Kuibyshev, whose colors he defended for two years. An important role in the sporting life of Sergei was played by his coach Yuri Moiseev. He practiced with his ward several times a day.
The successful performances of Sergei Nailievich Gimaev became the reason that the coaching staff of Moscow CSKA drew attention to the young hockey player. The Moscow hockey club sent a telegram to SKA about calling the athlete. So the dream of Gimayev was fulfilled - he moved to the club, for which he had been rooting since childhood.
The new coach of Sergei Nailievich Gimaev was Viktor Tikhonov. The specialist was famous for his training. The program consisted of a large number of strength exercises. CSKA hockey players lived at a base that was outside of Moscow. The team had only one day off. He was considered the day when they were all released after the match and allowed to start training at 11 am the next day.
At that time, CSKA dominated the hockey championship of the Soviet Union. As Sergei Nailievich Gimaev himself admitted, because of the large number of triumphs in the championship of the USSR, he could not say which of the victories was the most important and most valuable for him. However, the legend of Soviet hockey noted that the 1982/83 season occupies a special place, when his club in 44 matches suffered only one defeat.
End of career
In 1985, Sergey Gimaev became a player in the Leningrad SKA, the colors of which he defended for one season. In 1986, the hockey player decided to hang skates on a nail. At the end of his career, he was 31 years old.
The athlete noted that he was pleased with how his professional career developed. He was able to play internationally against such world hockey stars as Ružicek, Esposito and Gretzky.
Work after completion of a career
At 31, life was just beginning. Sergey N. Gimaev decided not to leave hockey for good and received a coaching license. For 14 years he was a coach and director of a hockey sports school at the CSKA club, and also played for a team of Soviet veterans.
In the early 2000s, Gimaev became a commentator on Russian TV channels. He covered hockey games, and also worked as an expert in various hockey studios.
