Biography
Svetlov Sergey Alexandrovich was born in January 1961 in the Russian city of Penza. The future Olympic champion made his first steps in hockey at the local youth school, and V. Barmin became his first mentor.
Due to the excellent speed and unusual manner of playing the game, Sergei Svetlov was invited to the Penza club "Dieselist", which then played in the first league. However, for a long time he did not stay here - in 1978, the hockey player moved to the location of the metropolitan Dynamo.
Gaming career
Thanks to his leadership qualities, Sergey Svetlov very quickly found his place in the new team. And although the “White and Blue” could not impose serious competition on the team of the Soviet Union, the strongest at that time, CSKA, but for eleven seasons in the “Dynamo” in the collection of awards the hockey player collected many medals for second and third places in the championships of the USSR.
In total, Sergey Svetlov, as part of the Moscow team, went on the ice in 375 matches, in which he managed to throw 134 goals into the opponents' goal.
In the late 1980s, after winning the Olympics, the Soviet striker got into the NHL draft, where he was chosen by the New Jerrysea Devils club. However, due to frequent injuries and a serious concussion, Svetlov was never able to play in the strongest hockey league on the planet.
After leaving Dynamo in 1989, Sergei still went abroad. He was invited to the German club "Ratingen", speaking in the second division. Here he spent three seasons, after which he moved to another team from Germany - “Herner”. After playing for her two more years, 35-year-old Sergey Svetlov ended his playing career and began coaching.
Speeches for the USSR national team
Hockey player Sergei Svetlov was first invited to the Soviet national team in 1985 before the World Cup in Prague. Unfortunately, in this championship the striker limited himself to only a bronze medal. But a year later, he became the world champion at a tournament in Moscow, adding to this achievement the “gold” of the European Championship.
In 1988, at the Winter Olympics in Calgary, a hockey player in the USSR national team took first place. After this tournament, he was not involved in the national team.
Sergey Svetlov was also remembered in international hockey for his successful performances at the Canada Cup, where in 1984 and 1987 he won prizes twice as part of the Red Car.
