The boy, like all six-year-old children, wanted to run, play with friends on the street. Father, playing sports, gradually attracted the eldest son to training, and then it came to the youngest. Since Mikhail did not have sports enthusiasm, his father and brother caught him right on the street and led him to training by force. As it turned out, not in vain.

Sports career

Initially, Michael played football, and then judo. However, he saw that the judokas were sitting still, not going anywhere. Soon he changed his sport, it turned out to be a fateful weightlifting. In Michael’s hometown, weightlifters were top professionals. They did not stand still, their life was filled with different trips and many competitions. This is what attracted the young athlete. Standing still is not for him.

In any business, you need a competent, erudite mentor who will "hurt" his own business and is ready to do everything to get the desired result. This was the case with Mikhail Shevchenko. The first coach played a very important role in the development of the athlete. It turned out to be Lebedev V. A. Thanks to his first coach, Mikhail did not stop playing sports. It was Lebedev who helped the athlete in difficult times.

Since 1992, Mikhail was a member of the national team of Russia, which he consisted until 2010.

At the age of 19, Mikhail fulfilled the standard of an international class master of sports.

In 1997, Michael participated in the European Championship, which was held in Croatia in the city of Rijeka. He performed in the 54 kg weight category. His result is 245 kg. He showed this achievement at the age of 22. At this championship, Mikhail won a bronze medal.

Mikhail also performed in the 56 kg weight category, the best result of which is: snatch - 120.5 kg; push - 142.5 kg; amount - 262.5 kg. It is worth noting that the breakthrough in this weight category is the current record of Russia.

At 25, Mikhail received a serious injury, with which he spent 8 months in the hospital. During training, the athlete tore the ligaments in the hip joint. Everything turned out to be simple cartilage, Mikhail could walk without surgery, but then he would have to say goodbye to training. I had to go to the hospital.

The time spent on treatment was not lost. The coach came to Mikhail and conducted classes:

The coach made me jump on one leg, get up to the wall and squat with the disc. All the exercises that can be done while lying, I did.

This was not the last injury of the athlete. He also broke his wrist just before the competition, but did not refuse to speak. Michael "ate" painkillers and went to speak. No injuries stopped the athlete. Everyone expected a result from Mikhail, but most importantly, he himself could not show a bad result. He was confident in himself, his strength.

About himself Michael says:

There are heavyweights, but there are "muhachi". I am the same “flyman”. Athlete who performs in super lightweight.

For an athlete, the team is the second family. It is very important that she be strong and friendly. Michael talked a little about his team:

The guys from the team always treated us very respectfully. They look, how they ate, how they slept. And when I didn’t finish something on the second, I gave it to my big neighbors. Naturally, they eat much more. By the way, at all competitions, “Muhacha” is settled in the same room with the bands. I weigh 56 kilograms, and he is 140-150. I remember only one heavyweight who lived in the room alone. 180 kilograms of live weight. This one didn't need a company.

Mikhail ended his sporting career at age 37.

Fatal defeat

In the career of almost every athlete, defeats occur, Mikhail is no exception. In such situations, it is important how the athlete behaves, what his reaction will be, whether his hands will drop.

Mikhail Shevchenko was tempered by his first fight, because it was he who lost it. After this, some would drop the case, but not him. The loss was 15 kg (the winner lifted a 45-pound bar).

The athlete himself describes it this way:

I got angry and a month later pulled out the first place.

The faith of one is stronger than the unbelief of a thousand

Michael is a man of short stature, medium build. Many acquaintances did not believe that he was stocky and really could pull the bar. Another such conversation turned out to be a boiling point, after which Mikhail told everyone that he was engaged in chess.

His family believes in Mikhail. In addition, he himself is distinguished by faith in himself. At one of the competitions, the athlete who spoke in front of Mikhail Shevchenko breaks his arm, the bar goes back, and a bone pops up from him.

This was the first time that Michael saw that weightlifting could seriously harm. However, he gathered all his will into a fist, came forward and took second place.

Fear of injuries did not seize Michael. He was stronger than him.

Athlete today

Sport was a big part of Mikhail's life. Every day, week, months were strictly planned in accordance with the schedule of his training, competitions. Sometimes, of course, there were days when he could afford to rest. However, constant moving, hotels, busy life gradually became boring.

After leaving sports, Mikhail had to completely rebuild his life, which, as it turned out, he really knew nothing about. The first thing he began to do was train children. Mikhail did not understand why they did not succeed in this or that exercise; it would seem that it was just that.

Soon, Mikhail realized that those who were in the big sport, it is better to work with ready-made athletes, slightly adjusting their work.

Today, Shevchenko Mikhail works as the director of the Youth Sports School No. 23 of Volgograd.
