The name of this woman found its place in the history of modern England. Perhaps it will not tell anyone about anything, while others have an idea which personality is “hiding” under it. Smith Jackie is the first woman politician in the history of the country to receive the post of Minister of the Interior. Before taking this post, she went through the real “fire, water and copper pipes”, and she herself refers to the category of feminists.

Politicians are not born

No, Jackie was not at all obliged to follow in the footsteps of her father, who was nevertheless related to politics. She was born in the English Malvern in 1962 in a family of school teachers.

The girl’s father was a member of the Labor Council and was an ardent advocate of conservative ideas. He often had to speak in public, and, communicating once with sixth graders, he more admired their teacher. It turned out that the young woman (expectant mother Smith) is also interested in politics, and therefore without hesitation she joined the Labor Party. There, communication continued, and ended up as a result of the wedding and the birth of a child.

Hobbies of youth

In parallel with her main studies, Smith Jackie, whose biography is full of interesting facts, was looking for a part-time job as a teacher of economics, but realized that with her analytical abilities she should not stay in this status for a long time. Without realizing it, she ended up on the post of the main coordinator of the economic direction of GNVQ in the college where she studied. Later, she worked as a secretary of the organization of Labor students. By the way, she held this post until 1997.

Adult interests

From now on, without politics, she could not imagine her life. Jackie Smith (photo in this article) confidently climbed the career ladder, and the next step was the administration of Terry Davis, a member of parliament.

Over the ten years of service, our heroine gained tremendous experience, which prompted her to decide to try her hand at the 1992 parliamentary elections, which she did not pass. But her colleagues remembered her as a confident, always right-ahead human rights activist, and therefore remembered her a little later, after Tony Blair won the election. Smith became a member of the House of Commons finance committee.

Only up

Since 1999, she has been working in the government. Over the years of service, Smith Jackie has held ministerial positions in health and commerce. She was appointed responsible for the development of a program aimed at combating the unsatisfactory behavior of students.

And, of course, she advocated for women's rights, achieved equality, “introduced” the first civil marriages that were allowed for representatives of non-traditional sexual orientation. For two consecutive terms, Jackie was successfully re-elected at her post.

She has a special relationship with the Labor Party. In 2006, she became its main organizer. The knowledge accumulated over the years allowed to save the party from a secret coup that could affect the rule of Tony Blair.

With his resignation in 2007, Gordon Brown came to power. He did not sympathize with Smith as a woman, but noted her political merits. He also appointed her later Minister of the Interior - for the first time in the history of the country! Smith Jackie was flattered. She set herself new tasks requiring her participation in a new post - the preservation of national security and the fight against terrorism.
