The frigate "Getman Sagaidachny" without exaggeration is one of the most famous military vessels in Ukraine. Since 1993, this ship has been the pride of the naval forces of this country.
History of creation
The initial idea of building a new ship was associated with the need to create a border vessel that could exercise effective control over the territory. When developing the plan for the future frigate, the designers, together with the border guards, took as a basis patrol ships of the Petrel type. At the insistence of the USSR State Security Committee, a ship project was created under the code "Nereus". The design of the frigate was carried out by the outstanding engineer Shnyrov Alexander Konstantinovich under the control of the main observer from the naval forces, Captain of the second rank, Vladimir Basov.
Construction
The implementation of the model under code number 11351 took place at the ship manufacturing plant in the city of Kerch. At this time, the construction of a project called “Kirov” was underway. This ship also had a border mission. He was launched in 1992.
It was this unfinished ship that was taken into the naval forces of Ukraine in 1993, was renamed and got its real name - “Getman Sagaidachny”. The frigate, the characteristics of which underwent some changes, was being completed already under the guidance of Ukrainian engineers. In 1993, the ship entered service and raised the military naval flag of Ukraine.
Modernization
In the model 1135, which was taken as a basis, certain changes were made. So, for example, instead of a guided missile system that specialized in boat attack, it was decided to produce a single, but more effective 100-mm artillery mount. Moreover, the stern of the ship has undergone impressive changes. A powerful radar station from this part of the ship was moved to the bow. In its place, a runway with an automatic complex and a hangar for aircraft maintenance was built.
Moreover, the sonar system was modernized: a new complex was installed under the Ukrainian frigate Getman Sagaidachny, and a towed speaker system was also provided. It is worth noting that such innovations affected the dimensions of the frigate. Due to the changes, the ship's displacement increased to three hundred and seventy tons, but the speed remained at the previous level due to the optimization of engine power.
Vessel characteristics
The Getman Sagaidachny frigate has a standard displacement of 3, 200 tons. The total will be about 3, 600 tons. The ship is 123 meters long, 14.2 meters wide, and has a draft of 4.8. The frigate can reach speeds of up to 31 nautical knots. The range of such a ship reaches 1600 nautical miles at maximum speed. The ship is equipped with power and artillery mountings, in front of which there are thirty-millimeter assault rifles, an anti-aircraft missile launcher launcher, torpedo tubes and rocket launchers. For an attack from the air, there is a take-off platform and a hangar adapted for storing one Ka-27 PS class helicopter.
The frigate “Getman Sagaidachny”, the photo of which can be found in the article, is also equipped with a radio-technical weapon system, namely the MP-760 “Frigate-MA” radar station of general detection, as well as other detection systems of the “Start”, “Volga”, “Platinum” types ”, “ Bronze ”, “ Host ”and installation for detecting signals of buoys and thermal traces. The ship has a Buran communications system.
The ship's capacity is designed for a crew of more than 100 people.
Vessel Activities
During his stay in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the frigate “Getman Sagaidachny” several times made foreign business visits.
Already at the beginning of his service, namely in 1994, the ship had the honor of officially arriving in France. The following year, the frigate visited an arms exhibition in the United Arab Emirates, and also visited ports in Italy and Bulgaria.
In 1996, the frigate distinguished itself and made its first passage through the Atlantic Ocean, leading a detachment of Ukrainian warships. In this composition, the Ukrainian naval forces reached the territory of the United States of America. In the same year, the ship officially visited the Kingdom of Great Britain and Portugal, as well as Turkey and Bulgaria.
In 1999, the ship arrived at the port of Israel. Several visits to the Mediterranean took place between 2000 and 2004. In 2008, the Getman Sagaidachny frigate took part in a special operation called Active Efforts for three months, and from 2013 to 2014, in an anti-terrorist operation off the coast of the African continent.
By coincidence, during the events of 2014 in the Crimea, the ship was outside the zone of events, so it was not affected by the fate of other military vessels of the Ukrainian Navy. The ship was moved to the port of Odessa. Despite the provocations of the Russian media that the frigate Getman Sagaidachny raised the Russian flag, this did not happen in reality.
