The educational activity of the State Russian Museum is quite extensive: a variety of projects with children and youth, coordination and training of employees of other art museums, and even postgraduate studies in the specialty of Fine, Decorative and Applied Art and Architecture. In turn, the lecture hall of the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg holds a wide variety of events for a wide audience.
Lectures are held by both employees of the museum itself and invited researchers and professors from other cultural institutions and universities.
What are the lectures?
The subjects of the lecture of the Russian Museum correspond to the directions of the exhibition and scientific activities of the institution.
First of all, this, of course, is the history of painting. Basically Russian - there are cycles of lectures devoted to all periods of Russian history - from Ancient Russia to the 20th century. However, lecturers do not ignore foreign painting. For example, there are classes dedicated to Andy Warhol and his imitators.
Part of the seminars is devoted to Russian history, namely the period of the Russian Empire. The schedule contains a series of lectures on the life of the imperial court in the Winter Palace and on the reign of Nicholas I. Events in the Christian culture occupy a special place. Here, the history of church art, including iconography, is examined in detail.
There are also lectures on art history, architecture, jewelry and museum work. But most of the events in the lecture hall of the Russian Museum of St. Petersburg are devoted to two or three topics that are intertwined. For example, the lecture series “Karl Marx Forever?” talks about works of art dedicated to the thinker. And the cycles "Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III" and "Tsar and the Architect" are about the influence of Russian rulers on the development of science and culture.
Other formats
In the lecture hall of the Russian Museum, in addition to the usual seminars, lectures and concerts are also held. In such events, part of the time is devoted to a report on the history of music, and the other to the direct performance of musical numbers. This year, the Russian Museum prepared a series of such events in conjunction with the musicians of the State Capella of St. Petersburg.
Another format is lecture tours. The lesson is held directly in the halls of the museum, and not in the lecture hall. That is, listeners are told the history of works of art and immediately show them. So to speak, a comprehensive immersion in another era.
It is also possible to conduct special classes for individual groups and classes with the departure of a lecturer. The program of such seminars is specially developed jointly with the applicant.
Children and youth events
The State Russian Museum conducts many educational programs for preschool children, schoolchildren and students. On the basis of the museum there are circles, a sector for working with youth and a student club. The lecture hall of the Russian Museum also does not stand aside and contributes to the cultural education of the young generation.
So, in 2019, a series of lectures "Myths, Tales, the Bible in Art" will be held, dedicated to the reflection of oral folk art and Christian legends in the visual arts. Events are also planned for history, art history and painting, aimed at a children's audience. Such lectures also include interactive games. Activities for children are also suitable for family visits.
