Activities
In 1980, the 22nd Olympic Games were held in Moscow. The protection of the capital’s sports facilities was entrusted to the regiment dressed in civilian uniforms. Of some soldiers whose height was not lower than 175 cm, a special group was formed, which at the time of opening carried sports banners at the parade.
The baptism of fire of the operational regiment took place in July 1988. The military personnel of military unit 3500, as well as the soldiers from other units, were alerted and sent to Yerevan to ensure public safety. Then, soldiers of the operational regiment performed combat missions in Leninakan, Nagorno-Karabakh, Chechen-Ingushetia, Nalchik, Mozdok, Kizlyar and Vladikavkaz. In 1995, soldiers were sent to carry out combat missions in the Chechen Republic. More than 1 thousand soldiers were allocated from unit No. 3500. Combat losses - 10 people. Fighters (700 people) were awarded orders and medals for their courage in performing combat missions. Major S. Gritsyuk, senior lieutenant A. Mikhailov and Private O. Petrov were posthumously awarded the highest title of Hero of Russia.
Today, the fighters of the unit have enough work in the capital. A vivid confirmation of this was the discovery of plastic bags and briefcases with mock-ups of explosive devices.
