Already in the twentieth century, the gap between winter and summer games was two years. The Olympic Games used to be held in Olympia and were of great importance to the locals. Previously, there was only one competition in games - short-distance running. A little later, they began to hold competitions in long-distance running, running for horses and running in full uniform. Only locals and Mediterranean guests could take part in the games. How the modern Olympic Games are held today, we all know very well: athletes from around the world take part in the competitions.
Olympics games are held every time in a new place. A certain country is selected, a city and all athletes go to the competition there. There are times when competitions are held repeatedly in certain countries, such as Greece. Since such competitions were born in Greece, after a certain period the Olympiad is held there again. Athens is the fabulous capital of Greece, so the locals proudly and with dignity hold the Olympic Games starting in 1896 (it was here that the first competitions were held).
How the modern Olympic Games are held is known to all viewers, but they need to know one thing - the current version is very different from the previous one. Today, the most exciting and major sporting event in the world is the Olympic Games. Programs are constantly changing, improving and mainly consist of twenty or more different sports. As a rule, at competitions personal records and achievements are set. Very rarely the potential of a certain team is assessed, basically each for itself. Games are evaluated by three medals: gold, silver and bronze.
As for the comparative characteristics of the games, before, only the Greeks and the Mediterranean guests took part, and now they are all well-established athletes from around the world. Today women compete on a par with men and have the right to fight for a gold medal, in Greece this was simply impossible. At the Olympic Games, athletes fight for awards, the honor of their country, showing their physical abilities, and in ancient times they were awarded even for spiritual abilities. Nowadays, marathon running is considered a competition, but in the past this was not. When the games were held in Olympia, all hostilities ceased, all the time was devoted to competitions. As before, the games are held every four years, but the break between the summer and winter games is two years.
How the modern Olympic Games are held, everyone has the opportunity to watch on TV, read about the results in the newspaper. To visit the country that hosts them is the dream of every sports fan. We were more fortunate, since in Greece almost everyone knew about the games, but only some could get there, now the doors of the Olympic Games are open to all interested spectators!
