Moscow is a famous city, decorated with magnificent buildings, green gardens and ancient winding streets - a living embodiment of bygone times. But not only architecture is famous for the Russian capital.
Nature is generous to these places, and numerous reservoirs located in the most beautiful corners of Moscow complete its unique appearance. We will get to know them and open a list of Moscow water bodies - ponds, lakes and canals.
Troparevsky Pond
On the territory of the Teply Stan landscape park, in the south-west of the capital, there is an artificial reservoir - Troparevsky Pond. He appeared in the postwar period, taking a ravine located at the source of the river. Glasses. And although the dry wording “water bodies of Moscow” does not fit this charming pond at all, we begin the description with it. Troparevsky Pond is the only flowing pond on a vast area where you can enjoy a good rest in nature. The Ochakovka River and Kukrinsky Creek flowing into the pond do not allow water to stagnate. Golitsyn Pond

Silver Grape Pond
This pond is one of the oldest and most famous in the list of "Water bodies of Moscow". It is located in the floodplain of the river. Serebryanka next to the place where in the 17th century stood the estate of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich - the father of Peter the Great. It was the founder of the Romanov dynasty that connected the river with two small ponds with dams, thereby surrounding Izmailovsky Island with water from all sides. In this pond Tsarevich Peter made the first voyage on a small boat, jokingly called subsequently "the grandfather of the Russian fleet."
This historical place today is a monument of landscape gardening art. The reservoir and the coastal zone were cleaned and restored, the dams were replaced with bridges, children’s swings were installed, basketball and volleyball courts were built, the banks and the beach area were strengthened. A well-equipped sandy beach, two boat stations, a rental of sports equipment and sports facilities have long been appreciated by vacationers. For those arriving by car, there are two well-maintained parking lots. The beach area is fenced with a decorative grill, ensuring the safety of vacationers.
Patriarch's Ponds
The list of water bodies in Moscow would not be complete without the famous Patriarch Ponds. Despite the plural, today it is one pond surrounded by a small neat park. Patriarch's Ponds is a surprisingly quiet place in the very center of the capital, with a rich history and literary fame. In addition, it is as if created for walking, relaxing and thinking.
In the reservoir, ennobled and cleaned in 2003, they launched fish. Besides her, swans and ducks have taken root here. The pond was surrounded by fortified shores, the square was reconstructed and this quiet corner turned into a cultural heritage site.
Chistye Prudy

Vorontsov ponds
The decoration of the South-West of the capital is a park with 5 ponds located on the territory of the estate Vorontsovo. These are well-groomed, picturesque places occupying almost 40 hectares - a real earthly paradise. Trees preserved from the 18th century, framing a cascade of ponds, a fortified coastline, an excellent park interior, several cozy cafes and playgrounds are good at any time of the year. Borisov ponds
The water bodies of Moscow are supplemented by Borisov Ponds - the reservoir, so named after Boris Godunov and existing for several centuries, is the largest in the capital. Its area covers almost 86 hectares.
The beach equipped on the north shore is excellently landscaped, however, there are harmful substances in the pond water that prevent swimming, which is indicated by prohibition signs. Moscow canals

The drainage (or Obvodny) canal has been operating since the 18th century: it was laid along the bend of the Moscow River near the Kremlin. Not long (4 km), it is a real decoration of the capital: 10 bridges are thrown over it, 4 of which are pedestrian.
Golovinsky (Likhoborsky) 7-kilometer canal, opened in 1940, is part of the Likhoborsky watering system and is intended for additional water supply to the Yauza River.
The canals of Moscow are complemented by the Krylatskoye - a rowing canal built in 1973, which is a sports facility.
