In the world there are so many amazing places whose beauty is simply mesmerizing. For each person, a variety of objects are unique. So, someone prefers sea landscapes, while others prefer the greatness of the mountains, the rest only needs to be in the forest to reunite with nature and feel happy. A truly unique place is also considered a grotto - a cave, which has its own characteristics and secrets.

Cave Characteristic

In nature, a cave is a cavity in the upper part of the earth’s crust that has one or more holes. Once upon a time, such unique gifts of nature were shelters for humans. Today, caves are visited during excursions, or people rarely can stumble upon them in the wild. Many are interested in what a grotto is. In fact, this is also a cave, but there is one important difference - it is shallow. In addition, the grotto has a wide entrance, a vaulted ceiling and, as a rule, inside it looks like a large and spacious hall.

Grotto Features

Before the formation of the cave, certain events necessarily occur, which are the cause of the emergence of the grottoes. The latter may appear as a result of erosion. When ground water is eroded, indentations are formed with a narrow passage and a wide hall inside. As a rule, grottoes can be found near the seas and rivers. Shore surf is the main reason for their formation.

Of particular interest is the question of what a grotto is for tourists who often meet with creations of nature. So, in the desert you can meet a small cave, which was formed under the influence of wind erosion. As for grottoes of karst origin, these are relict recesses. They arise on the basis of the once huge and massive caves, which collapsed, and small fragments remained, forming a unique grotto. It can be found near rocks or in cliffs of limestone. In karst grottoes you can find a source consisting of flowing streams.

To better know what a grotto is, it is worth visiting a valley near the Salgir River (territory of Crimea). There is a unique Chokurcha cave, which was rightly called the most ancient dwelling in all of Europe. During the Soviet Union, skeletons of Neanderthals and mammoth bones were found inside the grotto. In addition, there were remains of ancient animals such as a rhinoceros, a cave bear, a giant deer and a wild horse. A grotto extended to a fifteen-meter depth. Photos of the cave today are a real rarity, but unique pictures show how ancient the walls and surrounding elements are.

Also interesting are the cave paintings, among which you can often find the image of the sun, fish and mammoths. In the mid-nineteenth century, the grotto was awarded the status of a natural monument, the significance of which reached a world level. Unfortunately, today it is impossible to visit the Chokurcha cave, since its condition is poor and dangerous to human life. Even if the grotto is abandoned, everyone still remembers it and dreams of visiting it at the gate.
