Sverdlovsk region is located in the enclave of the Middle and Northern Urals and occupies 194.3 thousand square kilometers, which is 1.1% of the total area of ​​the Russian Federation. On the territory of the subject, there are enterprises that produce 45% of products manufactured in the Russian Federation.

The structure of the region’s economy

The bulk of the economy in the region is industry - 36%. Next comes trade - 21%, communications, transport infrastructure and real estate - 11% and 12%, respectively. According to the Federal Statistical Service, in the region 103.3% account for the main indicator of natural resources extraction, 109.3% for manufacturing enterprises, and 108.3% for the production and distribution of gas, water and electricity. This clearly indicates an increase in production output.

The executive authority of the region is the ministry. It is the leading link in the entire budget policy and economy of this region. Sverdlovsk region in the economic sphere is completely subordinate to the territorial authority.

The department develops and implements economic tasks in the regional policy and in the legal system, as well as in the sphere of civil and economic development. The authorities are developing strategies for positive changes in economic potential, social education policies using an effective economic management system, as well as organizing activities in this area of ​​the administrative bodies of the Sverdlovsk region.

Until recently, Dmitry Nozhenko was the Minister of Economics of the Sverdlovsk Region. In the near future, his post will be taken by the deputy governor or director of Vodokanal. And the ministry itself is soon waiting for the next changes - the ministry is planning to rename it the Ministry of Economy and Social Development, and at the same time the range of powers of the authority will expand.

"Strategy-2030"

The Ministry of Economy of the Sverdlovsk Region, the Council of the Ministry and specialists at the federal level have developed a draft law on the region’s development strategy for 2016-2030. The main objectives of the project are:

  1. An increase in the wages of workers, which will affect the quality of life of the population. According to representatives of the ministry, the income of the population should increase by 35% compared to 2014.

  2. Ensuring the competitiveness of industry and the business sector.

  3. Guaranteeing the overall development of centralized life in the region.

According to the plan, the economy of the Sverdlovsk region will develop, which will affect the region-wide background of the industrial complex.

Industry

Sverdlovsk region is rich in natural resources: there are ferrous and non-ferrous ores, precious metals (gold, platinum), coal, manganese, bauxite, non-metallic materials.

The main dominant industries in the Sverdlovsk region are the ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy plants, light and heavy engineering: mining, aerospace and rocket engineering, railway, machine tool and tool, oil production, medical, agricultural, equipment for the region’s housing and communal complex, machine building for light industry and food production.

The leading enterprises of the region are engineering production:

  • Theological and Ural aluminum plants;

Agriculture

The area of ​​agricultural land is only 14% of the total land area of ​​the region. Of the land used, 60% is arable land, 25% - hayfields and 15% - pastures

Agricultural activity specializes in cattle breeding, pig farming, poultry farming and agronomic farming. In 2015, the Sverdlovsk region in the livestock sector secured a 15th place for pork, 20th for beef, and dairy production took 15th place. Poultry farms took 15th place, and the egg industry took 8th place in the overall rating for the Russian Federation.

As for the agronomic economy, the leaders in collecting in the region are cereals and potatoes. Barley, rye, buckwheat, millet, winter and spring wheat are also grown.

To date, the Ministry of Economics of the Sverdlovsk region has developed a program to improve the efficiency of agricultural land. Activities include increasing competitiveness, improving the quality of raw materials grown, financial stability in the market, and supporting small farms.

At the current stage of agricultural development, the importance of the agro-industrial system of production in the economy of the Sverdlovsk region is growing. The territories occupied by the economy have high natural and economic abilities, which, when used rationally, can ensure the stability of the agro-industrial complex and jobs for the population.

Education and science

Sverdlovsk region has a rather high scientific potential. On the territory there are 1332 daytime and 49 evening secondary educational institutions, 85 secondary specialized educational institutions, 28 universities.

The universities of the Sverdlovsk region are represented by many technical specialties. The technical focus of education begins with school, since the prevailing specialties in the center of employment are industrial vacancies. Pupils present projects on the economy of their native land. Sverdlovsk region also takes pride of place in the All-Russian Olympiads and Universiades.

Most research organizations are represented by institutes, pilot plants, and academies of sciences. Currently, the economic costs of scientific work in the region make up about one percent of the region’s GDP.
