The head of this Far Eastern constituent entity of the Russian Federation is a native of the region. With his direct participation, several new models of military aircraft from the Su-22, -27 and -35 series were launched into serial production, as well as such unique machines as the Su-33 (in the ship version), Su-30MKK and Su -27CM, which were subsequently also exported. It was Vyacheslav Shport at KnAAPO that initiated the launch of two conversion programs for assembling the Amphibia and Su-80 aircraft, designed for thirty passengers and used today for regional airlines.
In government bodies
While still the technical director of this enterprise, the future governor in 1995 was nominated as a State Duma deputy (second convocation) on a federal list. At that time, the Vostok regional group failed to overcome the five percent barrier in the elections. In the same year, Sport Vyacheslav Ivanovich ran for a single-mandate constituency in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, but he was not lucky here either. The future governor lost the election, taking only fourth place and receiving only 5.35 percent of the vote.
Four years later (December 19, 1999), Vyacheslav Shport was elected to the State Duma of the Russian Federation (third convocation). It was put forward by voters in the district of Komsomolsk-on-Amur. This time he received a little over forty-six percent of the vote.

Wife of Shport (Galina Andreevna) works as an economist.
