The world impresses not only with its beauty, but also with its ugliness and cruelty. It would seem that in the age of new technologies, humanity and other virtues there was no place for primitive cruelty, but life shows that social pathologies such as cannibalism still exist in the modern world. This term refers to eating people to each other. Such a phenomenon also exists in the animal world, when representatives of one species eat each other. This is due to hunger or a sense of danger. For animals, cannibalism is a way to survive, to preserve their race; for people most often - a way to bring their sick fantasies to life.
There is a known case when cannibalism in the modern world helped a group of tourists who had a plane crash in the Andes survive in 1972. Those who survived could survive only because they consumed the bodies of the dead. They were held in ice captivity for 72 days and had no other chance of survival. Such cannibalism leaves an indelible mark on the human psyche in the form of a constantly haunting sense of guilt. It is impossible to get rid of it yourself, for this we need the help of specialists. The most obvious example was cannibalism in the besieged Leningrad, when for 100 days people were not able to receive food of a different kind. It should be noted that the murder for subsequent cannibalism did not occur, because they already ate dead people. Some historians are inclined to believe that, in fact, cases of eating people by each other at that time were isolated and not of a mass nature. They say that the blockade ate the meat of animals such as cats, dogs, rats. It is not possible to find out for sure about the events of that time today, since there are practically no eyewitnesses left.
It is worth noting that cannibalism in the modern world is not widespread, but interesting cases of this phenomenon are known. So, for example, in the spring of 2001, system administrator Armin Mayves posted several ads of a cannibal nature on the Internet. Surprisingly, they still found a response. Bernd Brands answered the offer to be eaten, which allowed the cannibal to carry out the conceived act with him quite voluntarily. After that, the court sentenced Mayves and sentenced him to 8 years in prison for unintentional murder. After some time, the case was reviewed, and for his actions he received a life sentence of imprisonment.
Today, cannibalism is extremely rare in Russia. This may be a manifestation of a criminal mental illness. As a rule, such crimes are serial in nature and people convicted of them receive a life sentence. Among the famous Russian cannibals of the 20th century are Alexander Spesivtsev, Andrey Chikotilo, Alexey Sukletin. In connection with the moratorium on the death penalty in Russia, they were serving or are still serving a life sentence in the special regime colonies. These people ate a few dozen people. They did not satisfy their hunger, but received perverse pleasure from everything that happened to their victim.
It is not possible to establish for certain the reason that cannibalism in the modern world still exists. There are many reasons for this behavior: traumatic situations, mental abnormalities, and critical situations. For human society, cannibalism is considered a pathology, but do not forget that there are developing African countries where this phenomenon is part of a centuries-old culture. They are an exception to the rule. Cannibalism is a very complex phenomenon, the causes of which are many. Scientists around the world agree that it is impossible to cure a cannibal, and he will always strive to eat human flesh.
