The beginning of a professional career

In anticipation of the Continental Hockey League season 2008/2009, the head coach of the “gladiators” Milos Riha began to attract Kabanov to training with the main team. It was then that they started talking about the young guy as one of the most talented and promising hockey players in Russia, predicting a bright sports future for him. At the heart of the first team, Cyril first appeared on the ice on November 18, 2008 in a match against the Amur club from the city of Khabarovsk. In total, in the debut season, Cyril played in six matches of the regular season and in four playoffs.

An attempt to build a career in Ufa and moving overseas

In the summer transfer period of 2009, on the day of his birth, Kabanov was bought by the Salavat Yulaev club from Ufa. Later it turned out that the player did not sign any papers, but was already at the disposal of the new club. Despite the technical indicators and the general talent of the striker, it was not particularly possible to play here, due to great competition. Cyril's father represented his son as an agent, and agreed on the terms of the contract. Time passed, but there was no and no game practice. Under the circumstances, the Kabanovs began to feel discomfort and look for a new club, but they were not immediately allowed to do so. As a result, there was a big conflict over the rights of the hockey player, both between Spartak and Salavat Yulaev, and between the player and the leadership. For a long time K. Kabanov could not leave the club because he did not have such rights under the contract.

Some time passed, and Cyril's father nevertheless agreed with the IFC (International Hockey Federation) so that he could play in the Major Junior League of Quebec (Canada) as part of the Moncton Wildcats club. As a result, a young and promising hockey player went to conquer the West, and the Ufa club Salavat Yulaev lost a lot of money on the ex-Spartak’s transfer.
